I have an idea for a business, and my husband and I have been debating if my business model would work.
I want to start a home based business for stay at home moms ( or anyone interested for that matter) that sells organic/natural personal care products. (Facial/skin care, body care, hair care.) The company that will manufacture these products for me is super ethical.
The products would be sold in home demonstrations, like a spa party. Part of the demonstration would be educating women about the benefits of living the organic lifestyle, and how it can be incorporated into anyones life.
My husband and I agree up to this point.
He says no one will want to do this unless it is a multilevel marketing business where they can earn commission on what people they recruit sell.
I don't want to use a multi level marketing strategy. I have done Mary kay and still have a very bad taste in my mouth from my experience. I want to give end of year incentives based on sales and recruiting.
I really want this to be an ethical, real situation for women that want to stay home with their families but still contribute to the family income. My husband says I am being to idealistic. I think alot of women would like this opportunity. (I know I would)
Mary Kay can say they are a "dual marketing" company all they want. It is simply a multi level marketing company, except the company pays the commissions and not the consultants. As far as my involvement, I was in director qualification when I left the company. The benefits with Mary Kay are all an illusion. They say the are the #1 selling skin care line in the US. They base these figures on what consultants order...not what they actually sell. How much do consultants actually sell for the full retail price? Check out eBay if you want the full story. You pay for your prizes and your commissions. Think you don't? Send product back under the company's "liberal" buy back program. The cost of the prizes will be deducted from your refund and your recruiter will have to pay back any commissions they earned on your inventory. In my DIQ, I was under a director whose director was in national qualification. I saw really bad things happen to get her national unit, which she got.
