Increasing Efficiency of Wood Burning Fireplaces With Wood Stove Inserts

By Carla Johns

Wood stove inserts increase the efficiency of wood burning fireplaces. One of the loopholes in the design of wood burning fireplaces is the great tendency of heat loss through the masonry of wood burning fireplaces. Wood stove inserts solve this problem by enclosing heat in the firebox, letting it circulate and releasing it to the room. Because wood stove inserts improve the performance of wood burning fireplaces, timber is preserved, which translates to substantial savings for your pocket. What

I need my wood hot tub repaired ASAP! Bay Area.?
My tub is leaking. It might be the wood in the tub or in the plumbing going to the gas heater. I cannot find a repair person that can deal with the redwood tub. I live in the South Bay… Any suggestions?

I’ve tried google and yelp, but no luck.
To clarify, this is the San Francisco Bay Area.

My cabinet is minimally rotted. New or old cabinet, the problem is that it is foamed in place to the where the perimeter of the fiberglass rests on the top of the cabinet..

You can get a replacement cabinet from the manufacturer or build one yourself out of the appropriate type of wood. You will nearly remanufacture the hot tub.

I haven’t worked on a hot tub but I have finished cedar furniture.

I used a nice stain I got at Sherwin Williams (it may have been “Wood Classics” brand). It was close to a cherry color and felt a little oily when I brushed it on. I gave it about ten minutes to set then rubbed off the excess with a dry rag. After a few hours it dried and looked great. I decided not to coat with poly as I liked the look and a bit of the cedar scent still came through.

What should you use with cedar wood on hot tub?
I own a Mt. Hood hot tub that has cedar wood around it. When I bought the tub the wood looked like it needed work so I asked the seller what they used. They told me to use a redwood stain, so I sanded the wood until there was no old stain or sealant on it. The wood looked clean, like new. From here I put a semi transparent redwood stain on it. I thought it would look nice after applying the stain, however it looks really bad. It is chalky looking and pink in color. I have never seen wood look so bad and I don’t know what I did wrong. Has anyone worked with cedar wood on a hot tub? Thank you for any advice.
