What should I get as a wedding gift for my friends?

The bride is a very dear friend of mine, and I will be one of the bridesmaids. Already gave a shower gift, which included items from the couple's registry. Cash seems tacky. Other ideas? I was thinking about a gift certificate to a spa (although enough to cover a decent service for two might be out of my range) near where they live, in addition to a small trinket gift....
Again, I already gave the couple several shower gifts, which included items from the registries.

    You could give them a gift certificate to a restaurant or a Wal-Mart card, or a Home Depot card, or any type of those cards that they could use to decorate their house.

    Get them something they can use on special occasions later on in life. A collectible.

    This was fun to think about. I have a couple ideas…but this one I thought was really neat. It's a mix of past, present and future. A time capsule. They can fill out the info and put their keepsakes in it (past) to open later (future). I'd also put in, like it says…some special things they can enjoy now. From anything to fancy chocolates, cavier and crackers to sented oils, bath soaps and massage lotions (now!). What a special gift with lots of thought and love for a special friend. Have fun. :)

    I vote for something that they both can do together. As a bride to be on June 9th….my registry gifts are precious to me…I spent a lot of time picking them out and desperately need more of my daily ware dishes….maybe covertly asking your friend what she is afraid she won't get but really wants!!!! Money is always awesome too!

    I would definitely ask her. If you feel weird about that because it wouldn't be a surprise either get her or the groom to write a "wish list" or ask her mother. I bet you're not the only guest in this situation, I know that in the past I have left it a bit too late to buy a gift and had to get something that cost a bit more than I was prepared to pay because most of the "good" stuff had already been purchased by other guests and couples often think of things after they have already registered.

    How about a hotel gift card? They sell them wherever you find huge gift card displays, and you can get them directly from Marriott, too. $100 is definitely enough for a night at a very decent Marriott-owned hotel, and any extra money can cover food and any other services they pay for. It might be relaxing, even after the honeymoon, to have a night away one weekend.

    There is also no law against going back to the registry, but I understand you want to do something a little different. Look into the spa idea (if it's something you think the guy will be into) and see if it will work for you financially. You can also leave a credit, or some special gift, in their room where they are going on their honeymoon, such as champagne and flutes (the kind you drink out of, not musical instruments :) )
    Or, an in-room credit for their resort or hotel, or a gift certificate for a special activity where they're going to be.

    You can also get them personalized champagne flutes (monogrammed at http://williams-sonoma.com, and many other places) along with a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine so they can continue to toast their wedding at home after all the wedding hoopla is over. They'll have these forever (unless they break!) and will always remember that you gave them as a gift.

    Don't worry about spending too little money. As a caring bridesmaid, you've already given your time and your support, and likely money for your dress and other items. Good luck.

    You can never go wrong with pottery. Or if you know they're having a baby…baby clothes for the future child! Or a little reminder to how what good friends you are…a picture of both of you doing something together in a marvelous frame. Or a scrap book of the memories both of you have shared. Sorry that's all I can think of.

    You can try giving them a gift catalogue/album. It comes in an attractive package, but it is a catalog from which they can choose a gift by going on-line or telephoning in their order. There are a number of them out there, but the one I've used is: http://www.atate.ordermygift.com. It is a secure site and it will arrive in less than 2 weeks so that you can personalize it. It looks like it's for corporate customers, but anyone can order. My friend introduced it to me because it is a friend of a friend's business and I ordered one of the "trip gifts" for my parents anniversary and they loved it!!! Just a suggestion.
