what does it take to have a great pool party?

ok i'll start off saying, that the ages would range from about 14 to 18, we're highschooled homeschool students... dont stereotype, i promise we're perfectly normal, and actually have lives, and dont wear clothes that cover every inch of out body hahaha...
im throwing a pool party/ bbq at the end of the year here's somemore info
-50 to 75 expected guests
-i live in plano tx, so it should be warm my the time the school year ends
-we have a pool and spa in our backyard, its a pretty large pool. and its not the plastic 6ft pools, that u can buy at costco or sams or whatever
-we have a bbq in our yard as well
-we have a hammock and a playground type thing

my question is what would make for a good pool party/bbq for a fairly large group of teens
-should i send invites via email, facebook, mail, in person, or what?
-what food do u think i should serve: burgers and dogs wit like chips and fruit tray, or do u have other suggestions
-what are some other things that make for a fun time
-oh and money isnt really an issue, but my dad works hard, so i dont want to spend too much on the party

thanks for any help you can give

Add some salads to the menu…potato and macaroni salad, some cookies and brownies, too. Soda drinks and bottled water on ice. Taco dip, nachos, Triscuits, cheese.

Here’s a site with a bunch of great Pool Games:http://www.thesource4ym.com/games/swim.asp
Too many to list here…but they are for a large pool and a large group to play!

You can be as creative as you want with the invites with your wording using the swimming theme and use whatever method will best reach your guests.

Play some music that has a fun water theme to it or tropical theme…..even go back to using some of the old BeachBoys songs (Wipe Out)….and Pointdexter’s old song "Hot Hot Hot", "Key Largo", some Reggae music as well as your current favorites. Sounds like it’s going to be a GREAT party!

EDIT: I’m adding that you can get an idea of what songs you’d like by going to http://www.last.fm/music/Black+Eyed+Peas/_/I+Gotta+Feeling?autostart
    that’s last.fm
I highlighted that song because it’s a great one to have at the party ;D.

A swimming pool, warm weather, fun music, hot foods cooked on a barbecue, cold drinks in cans, and lots of people who love to have fun outdoors.

Well, for super easy you could get those frozen burgers from Costco (they are really good) and if you have veggies in your group you could get Boca Burgers for them and grill them with corn on the cob (also on the grill). serve baked beans (you just open the can and heat on the stove), get a giant tub of potato salad from Costco. For snacks you could have chips, salsa and that 9 layer dip they have (costco) and you could make a fruit or veggie tray and serve ranch dressing or blue cheese dip with it.

To keep the costs down you could borrow from a church a big cooler they use for liquids (for drinks) and fill them with iced tea and lemonade. Make sure you have more ice than you think you need (store that in a regular cooler still in the bags and just rip open the bags as you need them. Try to use silo cups, plastic utensils and paper plates for easy cleanup. Have your dad put out a big trash can for everyone to dump their dishes in as they finish. We usually have a marker and write everyone’s name on their cups so they can reuse theirs thru the day. We put a table out just for the cups and drinks.

For your pool party you might want to have in mind lots of fun games for the pool. Here is a good site for game ideas: http://www.birthdaypartyideas4kids.com/pool-party-games.htm. If you can get a water volleyball game that would be fun to play and you could involve lots of kids. Make sure you have a few rafts.

Try to have music playing and extra towels. Games then food, then lazing around pool then more games. Have fun. Don’t stress.
