Switching my hot tub to Spa Frog mineral/bromine…?

A few questions:
1. The Spa Frog directions say to establish an initial residual of 1-2PPM of bromine or chlorine using brominating concentrate or chlorine shock... which one is best to use?

2. In the case of chlorine shock, I thought that shock revived existing chlorine... can shock be used to increase chlorine level if no chlorine has been added?

3. Do I need separate test strips for bromine and chlorine? (If I'm establishing the initial level with chlorine, then maintaining the bromine level, for example...)

Thanks for the help!

Just to keep things simple for you. Purchase three ingredients from your local pool/spa store.

    1. Bromine Concentrate
    2. 1" Bromine Tabs & floater
    3. Bromine Test Strips

With these three items, you’ll be able to increase your bromine levels as needed with the concentrate, and keep your levels stable with your tabs. You’ll have to experience a learning curve to discover how much you need to use on a regular basis.

As far as test strips go, you can purchase bromine strips if you please. I suggest purchasing a real test kit though. Don’t get intimidated by these, they have easy to follow instructions included. I recommend a Taylor K-1004. This will give you more accurate results and cost far less. You can pick one up from PoolCenter.com for around $16. You can purchase chemicals through them at a discount probably too.

    Hope this helps…

You’ll need to use shock and never use both bromine and chlorine together. test strips will be need as spa frog is a maintainer and wont raise the level.
