Swimming pools create lasting memories for everyone in the family or with friends during the summer months. A special bond is formed when you add people with water entertainment. Everyone will enjoy the sparkling cool water during the hot months as they soak up the sun or swim in the refreshing waters.

There is a swimming pool shape for every yard and lifestyle. With all of the different shaped pools it is not necessary to have a custom designed shape for a swimming yet if you find you cannot find the perfect shape for your pool you could have one designed for your special needs easily.

There are two types of swimming pools. The first is the above ground swimming pool. These pools are cheaper and quicker for installation. They are durable and long lasting when taken care of and the use of preventive maintenance are used. They can last several years and provide lasting memories.

The above ground pools are available in different shapes and sizes that will fit into any backyard or budget. They are available at several pool stores and on the internet. They require less maintenance and upkeep than the in ground pools leading to their popularity.

The in ground swimming pools are more expensive. They have more maintenance and plumbing requirements. They last longer and are more durable as well as offer more options for shapes sizes and options. When money or size of the yard is not a factor the in ground swimming pool can be considered an investment since it does increase the value of the home.

One factor to consider with either type of swimming pool is the safety to be used for the protection of children and pets. Both are likely to wander into the waters creating a hazardous situation.

    A = pi r^2
    . . = pi x (d/2)^2
    . . = pi x 8^2
    . . = 64pi…. pi = 3.14159…. I don’t know how much accuracy you want.

    V = A h… where h is the height (or depth) of the water
    . . = 64pi x 42
    You want it in gallons…
    V = 2688pi/231… presuming 231 cubic inches = 1 gallon

    He might be interested in the surface area if he were going to find out the volume. He also might be considering a pool cover. While above ground pools aren’t usually heated or chlorinated, he might be concerned about the loss of heat or the burning off of the chemicals.

    Draw the picture
    You have essentially a circle and a square… a square with a semicircle at two ends. The diameter of the circle is 2, the lengths of the sides of the square is also w.

    The surface of the pool is (w/2)^2 x pi + w^2
    The depth is 38 inches
    So the volume in cubic inches is 38*{[(w^2)/4 x pi] + w^2}
    The volume V in gallons is [38*{[(w^2)/4 x pi] + w^2}]/231
    Solving for w (in inches) in terms of V,
    w = sqrt(231V/(38*(1+(pi/4)))
    w in feet would be (sqrt(231V/(38*(1+(pi/4))))/12
    I’ll let you do the algebra… but I think that’s right.
    So, plug in the values for the volumes (8000 and 10000), do the arithmetic, and you get your answers.

    Here’s a hint… if my algebra and arithmetic are both correct, the 8000 gallon pool is roughly 13’9″ by 27’6″, and the 10000 pool is roughly 15’4″ by 30’8″

    Swimming pool design? Any mathematicians? engineers? architects?
    All your answers are highly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and good effort.

    **** What is the surface area, in square inches, if Michael has a cylindrical above-ground swimming pool with a diameter of 16 FEET.
    1. Michael’s pool (cylinder) has a height of 4 feet. However, the pool can only be filled to a depth of 42 inches. What is the volume of the pool in gallons? (One gallon is 231 cubic inches.) Please have your steps and explain how you calculated the volume in gallons.

    2. Why might Michael be interested in the surface area of the exposed water of an above-ground swimming pool?

    3. If Michael has two pools to choose from: from the top view, you can see the center portion: rectangle and the ends are each semicircles) The rectangle portion is designed so that the length of the rectangle was twice the width of the rectangle. The pool can only be fillled to a depth of 38 inches. There is a choice of the 8,000 gallon model or the 10,000 gallon model. What are the dimensions in feet, of each model? Show your calculations, please.

    thank youuuuu alll!

    Ample seating!!! You need all of the filters too keep the pool clean. Try to get seating far away from pool so specatators don’t get wet and it needs really good acoustics so u can hear the events. Make wide lanes. Those are the best. If u need anything else email me

    What’s an aesthetic design for the exterior of a swimming pool?
    recently, I had installed an above ground 12 foot diameter pool. the grass has been killed off around the surrounding area, and I have only had time to put a few potted tropical plants in places.
    I wont be doing any major work now with summer almost over, but I want to design over the winter something nice to do for next year. A running deck even to the top of the pool isnt an option. but what about one that is 1 foot off the ground? so that it could be walked on, have pool toys sit there and that way my kids and i dont have to walk in the mud around it?
    should it be wood or some other material? wood seems like high maintenance. I guess I could just build a landscaping bed but it might get ruined with too muich water when it splashes out and it drains when i clean it once a month.

    thank you for any suggestions.:)
