What is the best spa/hot tub brand for therapy?
I guess I’m looking for a spa that will sooth aches, back pain in particular. Is there a spa brand in particular that excels in providing spas that do that? I’ve heard Sundance Spas are good, but I’m still looking around…

  2. curiosity says:

I used to own a hot springs spa…it was awesome. I moved and the spa was too difficult to take with me, I miss it sooooo much!

I have a Saratoga Spa hot tub that all of a sudden neither of the 2 pumps turn on but the blower motor does?
Both pumps when the buttons are pushed seem to be running ,but I’m not getting any of the jets to work.We live in the North East and its been really cold, but the water temp is somewhere around 100, so I’m pretty sure its not frozen. It’s just very odd that both pumps aren’t working at the same time? I’ve had this hot tub for around 8 yrs.

  4. James R. Reed, II says:

My hot tub shuts off (trips the GFI breaker) if I hit the “jets” button two times too quickly. Any idea why?
We recently bought a used Cal Spas hot tub with limited documentation, none of which addresses this possible scenario.

By default, the spa runs the pump for four hours after I first turn it on. Two times now I have gotten too anxious and have played with the jets or light during that four hour period.

Usually that doesn’t create a problem but both times I accidentally turned the jets one when I meant to hit lights. I rapidly hit the jets button a second time to shut off the jets.

Both times that has caused the GFI breaker to trip.

In each case, it takes about 12 hours before I can turn the breaker back on and restart the hot tub.

    Any thoughts?

  5. T C says:

Now hold on pardner! Don’t run out and pour more power in, or buy a new breaker! Sounds to me like the breaker is doing it’s job. What is confusing is you think you are working with the gfi, when what you are experiencing is an overload. Starting and stopping any big motor is going to cause excessively high current and high current will cause an overload. You don’t have a real problem, just let the pump run for a minuet or so after turning it on and then shut it off, your problem will go away or my name isn’t Sparky.

  6. Jonathan says:

IF THEY ARE RUNNING,IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE may be air in the system (did you recently refill spa?) or possibly the impellers are blocked more tips here: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com/pool-pump-problems.html

  7. scubabob says:

The button you press to engage the high speed on the pump, does exactly that, it increases the water flow. The jets work somewhat like a venturi in a automobile carborator. Water is restricted in the jet and forced to move quickly through it. There’s an air hole at the top of the jet, inside, that “feeds” air from the airline into this quickly moving water. Sometimes, if the water level is too high or if the jets themselves are turned down (partially closed), you’ll get a short burst of air, then nothing. It’s also possible that the airline itself is partially blocked, sometimes with hair or scale. If this is the actual cause, after ruling everything else out, those jets need to be unscrewed out of the return outlet and cleaned. It’s also a good idea to run the pump briefly to get anything else in that line out. You may need a special tool, depending on the jet maker ( it’s not going to be American Spa) to get the jets out.
Look for what looks like a round cap, near each jet or near your controls. Some models have the air control situated like this. Turning the cap counter clockwise, opens the air line. Failing that, your jets may be of the old variety and require you to open each one, individually, by turning the actual jet nozzle. Again, counter clockwise opens them.

  8. Eric G says:

How do you change a hot tub setting from a short pulse of the jet to a constant stream of bubbles?
I have an American Spa hot tub probably from the 80′s. It has two buttons on the top near the filter, a button for the light and for the jet. The jet button seems to only have one setting. If I press the button once it causes the jets to send out a short burst of bubbles for 5-10 seconds, then stops for 20 seconds, then another burst. On the electrical box down on the side of the tub there is a timer switch and nothing else. I don’t see any way to adjust from short pulse to constant jet. Any advice?

Cal Spas hot tub flash “FL”, low flow.?
Checked the pump, it looks good. When tub is turned on , the pump come on, led shows FL.
Did get to start heating, but when engage jet it would stop pumping and led would go to FL.

  10. Jay says:

Here is what my manual says:

FL Flow switch (heater is deactivated. The filter/circulation may also be deactivated.) Proper flow of water is inhibited or a flow switch has malfunctioned. Check for proper water level and for clogged filter.

*NOTE: This message can also appear if the pump has not regained prime after the hot tub has been drained and refilled. If you suspect this is the case, see instructions under “Pump does not operate and icon does.”

The instructions under “Pump does not operate but…” are as follows:

    Depress the jets sensor
    1. If no sound is detected or if a buzzing sound is detected, turn off power to the hot tub and contact your dealer or service center.
    2. If motor operates but no water flows to jets: Pump may not be properly primed. See instructions on priming pump.
