Enjoying your hot tub and spa even in the winter

Author: Rhess

Having a hot tub or spa means you can take advantage of and enjoy its warmth even in the winter. Even in the cold and snow, you can take advantage of the soothing jets and heated water. Wintertime can be one of the most enjoyable times to use your hot tub, as long as you take proper care of it.

One of the greatest dangers of running your spa or hot tub year round is the damage that could occur if the plumbing freezes. Most spas have a built in preventative measure and will have a switch on the main control panel thermostat. If you plan to use the spa in the winter, make certain the setting is programmed to keep the water warm all day. You can program it to heat up before you plan to jump in but keep it warm enough to prevent freezing the rest of the time.

If your spa thermostat isn't equipped with a timer switch you will have to pick a temperature at which to set it so it doesn't freeze and so it maintains a steady temperature. You also want to keep the water circulating on a schedule to prevent freezing. Depending on the temperature of the climate in which you life, you might have to run the pumps more frequently to prevent freeze.

The colder it is outside, the longer it will take your hot tub to heat up and keep it at the same level. The spa will also need to run longer during the winter months to maintain the same temp you keep it in the summer months. The best way to keep a cap on your heating bills would be by investing in an insulating cover for the hot tub. You can also add a floating thermal blanket under the cover to further reduce heating bills.

When you aren't going to be using the spa, make certain you keep it covered. The spa cover isn't designed to bear the weight of snow. It's best to keep up with snowfall as it happens.

Make certain you have drained and cleaned your spa before the winter months hit - and then refilled it before winter's snows begin flying. If you drain and clean it before winter, you will not need to do it during the season.

While it's thrilling to slip into the warm embrace of the waters of your hot tub, make sure you've prepared for getting out o fit and have towels at the ready. Why not consider a heated towel rack or warming unit to make getting out of the tub as enjoyable as having been in it.

A psychologist could help you with this – they work with many phobias. Yours is not so odd; people are afraid of all kinds of things that others aren’t. Psychologists work through the problem of all phobias in similar ways, so it doesn’t matter to them what the phobia is, they can work it out with you.

You may want to think of the first time you became frightened of this and think of surrounding circumstances, such as who you were with and if that person was nervous, mean, negative, maybe they were afraid of it and told you “how” to be afraid also. Also, what was going on in your life at the time. Was there some disturbance happening? A family separation, fighting, someone in your life had a drinking problem or there were some kinds of problems at home or at school that had your nerves in a knot? Was someone bullying you at that time? A lot of phobias can be developed at public swimming pools that are very crowded, filled with over active kids, bullies, lots of noise, life guards whistling and yelling, fear of the water getting too deep, fear of being “dunked” by bigger kids. Maybe something actually happened near this kind of equipment that stunned you – maybe you saw something nasty like some old guys hind end sticking out of an ill fitting bathing suit. Who knows? But if you can figure it out, you can say “huh” that’s not really worth getting worked up about; or, if it really was something very traumatic, then you need to talk it through with a psychologist until it’s not a panic anymore.

A question about sweating in the sauna?
I go to the gym everyday and alternate between heavy work out days and lighter days, but I use the spa facilities every day.

I sit in the sauna and I notice that I sweat very reasonably. Little beads of sweat gradually appear on my skin and eventually I am covered with a slick, slippery sheet of watery sweat from head to toe.

However, at the same time, I noticed another user. He sweated like the proverbial pig. It was like he was sitting uner a rain cloud drenched in his own sweat. He reminded me of a broken fire hydrant. Sweat dripped off his head and off his chin down to his feet and he sat in a pool of his own sweat so profusely drowning in it that I thought he might need first aid.

My question: WHAT GIVES? Why do we sweat differently, all things being equal?

  3. Terry says:

Your sweat glands are designed to give off moisture which then evaporates to cool your body. It regulates your internal temperature. People who sweat more typically retain more heat, and need to lose it more than you do.

What kind of Phobia is this ?? , Fear of Deep Water Equipment?
ok ive been trying to find what phobia this is for most of my adult life , i dont even know how to ask the question because the fear is so irrational in my head, so if anyone can give some detail or if there’s a expert somewhere would be great

    so here goes

well it started when i was a teenager , and i would go to splash town and those little jets at the bottom that would shoot out water , would scare me , like during the whole trip i would be focused on not stepping on the holes on the bottom of the pool. i would be so frieghtned of being even near that.

so now as a older adult wit a house to take care of with a pool , one day one of the jets would just not work rite and i had to stop the power to everything near the spa/pool equipment set up on the side of the house
well, im walking towards that the sound even got me so scared and i had this big fear of even going close there, and when i got close to the pumps and jet equipments for my pool i could barely stand and not run the other way. the water going thru the see thru pumps and the water sounds of equipement humming with the 2 sewer holes to the left jus had me scared to the bone, like everything didnt matter but running the other way , now i had to get to the switches which was behind a closed drawer on the wall , in back of all this equipement and i really couldnt reach thru all that to get to the off switch , i had to summon all my courage for not messing up the pool and admitting to the rest of the family i couldnt go near there , i quickly opened the panel and hit the switch and ran as fast as i could , to this day i dont know why i was so scared

until recently i had to change the switch in the back inside of the toilet
the part that connects to the big black thing inside that controlls the flow of the toilet , so as soon
as i open the toilet cover i see the water stuff ,lil pumps , that big bouncing ball , with a hole in the bottom that sucked all the water to this unknown place , and i swear to god i couldnt ever get the nerve to completely fix it , it seems water equipment like damns also give me this big fear when i get close to it .

i really dont even know how to approach asking a normal person about this so i would like to know if theres someone that could enlighten me about this irrational fear i tink i have.

    thanks
    antony
ive tried google but it doesnt even generate anything usefull, sorry for spelling

It’s very similar to my house, actually .. the biggest difference is that ours is two stories, and the bedrooms are bigger.
We got it years ago, and it’s worth a lot more now.
I’d say it’d be close to 1.7 million-ish now. Maybe more.

how much on estimate would this pool cost:
    http://midwestpoolsusa.com/product_details.php?recordID=31
    with this spa:
    http://midwestpoolsusa.com/product_details_spas.php?recordID=41
and adding a cover, decking, vaccum, purifiers, lighting, water effects, and possibly a slide from the same site?

I know thats a lot but if someone could give me a good idea of what the pricing for something like that would be, that would be fantastic.
