Author: Lincoln Snyder

You might very well have been misled about spa filter & hot tub filter maintenance & in fact the level of work necessary in preserving your spa & hot tub h2o good quality usually! Don't experience negative about this simply because we estimate that eighty% of all spa & hot tub purchasers are in the very same boat. The 'nice' salesman who marketed you your spa or scorching tub needs prospective customers to feel that ownership is a completely painless approach - they don't want 'obstacles' to seem that could place folks off. And of program it's much much more romantic to paint a image of sipping champagne on balmy nights than dwell on the detail of spa & scorching tub upkeep! So let us just say that they 'play down' the relevance of spa filter upkeep, how usually they require getting rid of & rinsing, deep cleansing with cartridge cleaner & how prolonged your filter/s will genuinely final.

In fairness, the normal lifespan of a 'Pleated Reemay Cartridge' spa or scorching tub filter is typically quoted as getting 12 months or so in the spa, very hot tub and pool industry. In reality this is far more accurate for a 'Pleated Cartridge' POOL filter, but the statement has just 'carried-over' to consist of spas & scorching tubs as properly. The filters are produced of the very same (Reemay) material but there are some sizeable variations in between a Pool & Spa or scorching tub setting:-

1.The volume of h2o 'per person' in a tiny domestic pool is considerably greater than in a very hot tub - a smaller loved ones pool with say twenty,000 litres of h2o 'shared amongst' a loved ones of six provides extra than 3,300 litres per man or woman, an typical six seat scorching tub or spa with 1,300 litres of h2o provides just around 200 litres per particular person - in other words you would will need a hundred men and women in the smaller household pool to be equivalent to acquiring six in the very hot tub! Large distinction!

2.The temperature that a very hot tub/spa operates at is appreciably increased than that of a swimming pool. This generates a myriad of other problems, not least of which is the hot tub's skill to breed bacteria at a significantly accelerated charge, 'strip-off' entire body lotions, creams & spray-tan & get rid of all that latent detergent nonetheless 'hiding' in your recently laundered swim-put on. Including coagulant items like foam down, sparkle and so on. only serves to enhance cleaning frequency and more decrease filter lifestyle. A far better solution is the use of a scum absorber like the new Zorboid product or service.

The net end result of these aspects is that the lifestyle of a spa filter is a significantly tougher a single than that of a pool filter, it is hardly astonishing then that their existence expectancy is significantly shorter. Current study from G.E. H2o (element of Common Electrical) the global firm, stated:-

"The successful pore dimension of the filter is steadily lowered as some of the pores grow to be blocked by create up of more compact particles. These deformable particles are usually of a semi-sound nature and are present in the form of a slime or gel like material. If the concentration of these particles is substantial ample then the element can be "blinded off" which prevents flow. When these filters are washed they only retain roughly ten% of their total filtration worth; the typical lifestyle is two months."

Your filters will be fine. Little does that girl know that you also, will poop yourself one day. Everyone does! Just let it go and don’t make her feel any worse by bringing it up again if your telling the truth. Witch I doubt you are unless you were all naked and drunk!

Poo in spa, filters destroyed! HELP!?
My friends were over in my spa and my girlfriends best friend laughed really hard and then pooped. We all screamed and ran out of the spa. I think she feels bad, ’cause she hasn’t come over since. What should I do?

How do I bleed my spa after servicing the filters?
I have Cal Spa with one filter near the pump and another full size filter near the skimmer. The filter near the skimmer is above the water line. I’m not sure how to get the air out of this top one. When I run the filter the filter chamber has suction so it just draws more air when I open the bleed valve. If I open the chamber and just try to fill it with hose water the water drains down into the skimmer. I called Cal Spas and (despite what their ads say) they don’t support spas before 2000. Mine is a 1990 PS-3 8′x8′. When I run the jets I hear the pump occasionally starve for air and the jets go down.

Your not going to like this answer….but they are worthless! Go for a regular Pleatco or Unicel. The eco part is not worth the extra cost. Go ahead and get a “Frog” stick or floater for the mineral.

The filter is supposed to be on the discharge side of the pump so that it remains pressurized while the pump is running. There should only be a screen on the suction side. The sequence is – skimmer – screen – pump – filter – jet.

You have two things you need to make work. The pump and the heater… First, see if you can get the pump to work… if it does you are half way there… a really weak flow usually means the impeller is spent. you can rebuild the impeller and reattach it to the motor. Now, see if the heating element works… if it is electric, you are set… those are generally easier to fix… just replace the elements. If it has a gas heater, and the pilot wont stay lit, you have a bad thermocoupler (device that tells pilot to remain lit.)

as long as the tub holds water, and the piping is in good shape, the things you want to do should not be too hard for a guy who is good with his hands. If the pump motor is shot, this will likely be the most expensive part to replace…
    good luck

What is involved in rebuilding a spa?
I’m moving to a house that has a spa. Problem is it doesn’t run. Its an older spa but I’d love to get it running again. We got quoted for some outrageous price (Over $1000). I’m pretty mechanically inclined and it doesn’t look like theres much too it. What components are there in a basic spa? I’ve looked around ebay and found pumps, filters and heating elements for pretty cheap. What else is there involved with rebuilding a spa?
