where i can find quality safe spa cover?

How do you unlatch the latches keeping the cover on a CalSpa spa?
I know…this sounds like a really dumb question…I got a used spa (excellent, barely used condition!) from a garage sale and cannot figure out how to unlatch the plastic latches holding the spa cover down. They seem like they should just squeeze and unlatch, but they won’t.

I’ve tried looking for instruction manuals showing how to unlatch the cover, but no luck.

If anyone can tell me how to unhook the latches, or can find an operating manual for a 2003 Balboa Fiesta CalSpa, I qould be VERY appreciative.

    Thanks!
Thanks Jim!! There just so happened to be a little black plastic “key” in the bag of miscellaneous parts. The cover latch came off with no problems!!! Yay :)

Now all i need is an operating manual found online somewhere.

the cover is affected by whatever the water chemistry is. if you do not treat your water correctly then the cover absorbs the smell. if you use natural chemistry the smell will eventually go away ! the 1st chemical you should use is called sodium dichlor 2 oz for 5 to 6 hundred gallons of water to sanitize your water. use this instead of the tablets in a lil blue and white floater. the smell you have is incorrectly treated water !
the sodium dichlor is not as acidic as the calcium hypo chloride that you might be using or the bromine tabs.

how to disenfect a spa cover?
My hot tub cover seems to be making my spa smell. The cover is old but not water logged. What can I do to disinfect the cover? I do not see the need to buy a new one since it is in ok shape.

what is the life expectancy of a spa cover?
where would be a good place to get a replacement? Thanks!

  7. walmeis says:

A standard temporary fix would be to remove the cover and tuck it away out of sight.

Spa covers are typically custom made, so that’s why it takes so long. If you are desperate, you could visit a few stores and see what they have in stock. Something oversized will work clumsily.

Anywhere to purchase a hot tub/spa cover same day or any temp fix?
I have found that online and a few pool stores take weeks! I live in Baltimore, MD but either way, any suggestions would be great. Having a party for the 4th and just realized the cover is torn and waterlogged, as well as kinda grimy. Not sure what my options are. A temp fix would even be okay!

Some latches lock, and you need a key to open them. Great for keeping the kids out the spa. You may need to lube them with some soapy water or just cut them off
