Spa Accessories

Author: Margarita Louis

You need spa accessories if you have a portable spa or an outdoor spa at home. If you want to have the complete spa experience then you must have these few essentials in your cupboard. The best way is also to do a little research and a little trial and error of your own to get that perfect concoction for your blissful spa experience.

Essential Spa Accessories

Bath Salts Bath Salts are perfumed salts that come in various flavours and smells. All you have to do is add a few spoons to your spa water and they fizzle to give you a relaxing aroma which has therapeutic effects much like aromatherapy. Bath salts also have essential properties that help in detoxifying and have beneficial properties for the skin. They have body smoothening, body polishing, hydrating, oxygenating and many such properties.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is medically proven to have distressing and rejuvenating effects on the body. You can use aromatherapy in your day to day life with incense sticks or aromatherapy candles. But one of the best ways is to soak in your spa and enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy. Some ways to use this:

Candles- Aromatherapy candles are available in many smells. From calming to rejuvenating to uplifting. All you have to do is burn these candles that are made in such a manner that they have the essences of the aromatherapy oils mixed with the wax.

Oils - Aromatherapy oils are tiny bottles of concentrated essences of plants and fruits that have medicinal properties. There are specific instructions on how and how much to use the oils. Some oils can cause an irritation if you are allergic to them so it is advisable that you consult with an aromatherapy specialist before buying them. You can add these oils directly to the water (if specified) or you get special aromatherapy apparatus which has a small dish over a small candle which releases these oils into the air.

Sprays - Aromatherapy sprays are a new addition to the aromatherapy family. They are simple sprays which can be sprayed into the air before you step into your spa pool.

Spa Tray

This tray which can be hung on the side of the spa is an absolute essential as it can hold your remote, cool drink, book, oil, etc. It would be so inconvenient if you had to get out of the pool every time you needed a refill or wanted to keep your book somewhere.

Spa Steps

A spa step is not only an essential spa accessory but is also a safety feature. A non slip surface spa step helps you get in and out of the hot tub or portable spa as they are sometimes tall if placed on a slab.

Mood Lighting

Mood lighting plays a very important role in a great spa experience. Spa experiences are the best when you have soft lights. You even get colorful mood lights which can be installed into the portable spa itself. Its a cool idea especially when you have a party and have friends and family over. When choosing your portable spa; ask for one with inbuilt lights for a scintillating effect.

Jet Packs

Jet Packs are specially designed seats that can be installed into your spa. These massaging seats offer a direct ticket to a heavenly experience. Its the best way to relieve stress and tension. Its great for back and shoulder pains especially. I think a spa theme would apply to any gender. Paint the room green (or some shade of green that you like) because it is a soothing color. Use candles, dried flowers, a mix of spices or aroma therapy . Plush towels will make it more luxurious. Rugs on the floors if you have tiles or hardwood will add to the relaxing feeling. One last thing would be to add a dimmer switch to the lighting.

Guys like to be pampered even though they won’t admit it.

My walls are buttercream yellow, and I’ve decided to add black and white accessories?
What fabric/color should I use with which to upholster my sofa? What kind of coffee table should I buy? I would like the mood to be as a spa on Park Ave. with vintage elements, although this is my apartment.

Ballard Designs and Brocade have catalogs with lots of products that would work and really cute ideas. (They have websites, as well.) Overstock.com often has some unique pieces, as well. All of these sites have furniture (sofas, tables, etc) as well as accessories. Macy’s has some great tables and sofa options – even to use as an idea to take to a local furniture store.

If you want to add ‘color’ you can always introduce sage green, wine or red to the mix. They’ll all go well with the black & white, too.

A simple black sofa would be a nice base – then you can add pillows/throws in colors to accent. There are also some unique patterns – black & white scroll or fleur de lis print, or small diamond print. A jaquard fabric is nice, too (where you have a, for example, black on black print, or white on white). Even a small diamond quilted look can be sleek and sophisticated – just have to go out looking and see what’s in your price range and what you can get in a fabric you like. If you have pets, you’ll want something that doesn’t hold the pet hair, too.

As far as tables go, it really depends on your space. It may be beneficial to find a table that offers you additional storage (think a cube table that the tops open for storage and they separate for additional seating; or a large ottoman that opens for storage and coordinates with your sofa, it can also be used for seating). Here’s a pic of one of those tables, in case I didn’t do well explaining: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=252299&CategoryID=29845&LinkType=EverGreen

Or forego a coffee table and do some unique end tables, even….keep a nice open/spacious look.

Best wishes….start clipping pics of what you like or what draws your attention, then start shopping and pull it all together based on your box of faves! It will be fabulous!

As always, the answer to a question like this depends on what you want to accomplish. Generally, the purpose of networking is to get prospects.

If that’s what you’re hoping to do, go to events/places that either have prospects or else have centers of influence on your prospects. For example, you may wish to consider travel associations, health & beauty associations, etc.

For programming built around big brands, check out the American Marketing Association. If you’re targeting smaller businesses, you’ll still get good info from AMA, but you may not find the relationships you’re seeking to move your company forward.

The AIGA (American Institute for Graphic Arts) at the national level also targets large agencies and big brands, but the local chapters have terrific activities where you can meet good people you can work with on smaller projects.

Don’t forget to have your own value proposition and 30 second elevator speech figured out before you venture into the networking world!

    Rex
