What is the cause of the white foam in my hot tub?
The water has only been in the tub for 2 weeks. I am using the Soft Soak system and followed the directions exactly as given by Soft Soak. My ph is in the normal range and so is the sanitizer level. I have only used the tub twice since the new water was put in. I have tried SeaKlear de-foamer and it has absolutely no effect on the foam. Also, the foam has a very bad odor to it. Can anyone knowlegeable with hot tub water and the Soft Soak product help??
The water I use is city water and we have the best water in the US here. There is nothing wrong with the water when it goes in the tub. Also, it is not just “bubbles”. It is foam and in some places in the tub, it get a couple inches thick. It is not from anything off of my body or bathing suit since I get in the tub naked and I shower before getting in.
Its not the water that has the odor. It’s the foam.

hot tub and the deed…odd question. GUYS ONLY?
I was in the hot tub, and i got wood… so then i decided to put “it” next to the jet as a sort of vibrator… it felt good but i never finished. I kept trying and trying, and i never finished. I also didn’t get soft again. I’m wondering if i finished, and didn’t notice, b/c it was too intense, or what the heck happened… anyone know?!

If you’re using the sanitizer product from soft soak its likely that you turned the tub on and used the “aerator” option, i.e. made the water bubbly. Since the sanitizer is a polymeric solution it will “latch onto” all the tiny microbes in the water and in the filter and in the tubing etc. Polymeric just means that its molecules are huge and “grab onto” other molecules in the water thereby keeping it clean. If you churn all that stuff up its as bad as putting in shampoo or liquid shower gel while running the spa. Just drain it out fill it up with clean water. Might have to do it two or three times to get it all out and start over. Professional plumber/water treater 10yrs.

As for the bad odor you need to check if its coming from other hot water sources inthe house. If you fill up with cold water check other taps to verify there is no smell there either. It could be the anode rod inthe water heater or water from well could be contaminated. Very seldom will city water be contaminated, but it does happen. Any of those three things could cause the odor. If your water system checks out ok it sounds like you got a funky chemical batch. Either way, try the rinse method first, its the cheapest and most likely to give you the most information.
    Hope this helps

I added the soft soak product page below so you can check it out straight from them.

No, you can certainly tell if you ejaculate, even in a noisy hot tub as you will feel it. May have been a subconscious inhibition about cuming in the hot tub, or under water in a bath. Some guys have more trouble being able to do that until they get used to the sensation.

Slow down and check the water after 24 hours. All I have ever used for start up is water. You may want to drain the tub and start all over.

How to decrease pink ph (8.4+) and blue alkalinity (240+) in a 375 gallon hot tub?
We just filled the hot tub for the first time yesterday with town water. The sides of the tub are not as clean as when we filled it, which indicates high alkalinity. Brown scum is accumulating around the edges at the water line. White chips came out of the pipes when we started it up. Some of the chemicals may have been blown out of the pipes. The previous people who used the hot tub were renters without permission. After using half a bottle of ph decreaser, we are going to go get a couple of gallons of vinegar and try 5 cups at a time. The 4 way strips are annoying because we can’t see any decrease. For the recommended startup, we used 11 oz of softsoak, 2 oz of stain and scale control, 7oz of soft soak shock, and 2 oz of sanitizer.

Hot Tub–Spa Owners (Discolored Fresh Water)–What does this mean?
I was wondering if any of you could help me problem solve this. I have changed the water in my spa 3 times. The first time, the water looked fine after it filled the tub from my garden hose. The last 2 times I drained with an electric sump pump and then re-filled the tub with the same hose. I ran fresh water through the hose for a couple of minutes and then begin to re-fill (after cleaning the tub). Once the tub got about 1/4 full, the water started to take on a green tinge. It looked awful! I went through the process of testing the water, getting the pH up, and adding water hardener (as we have very soft water). I then shocked the water and let it heat up and filter. The next day, everything was balanced and the filters did the trick..very clean looking water and tested perfectly (woo hoo).

But I am worried about what might be in the water. Do you think this discolored water is due to:

    1) the hose…could the stuff from the old dirty water be getting back in the tub?
    2) bad pipes?
    3) water source issues?
    or what?

Thanks, any good ideas would be helpful.
The tub was cleaned after I drained it, I did not use a cleanser, just a clean damp cloth. I also cleaned the filters.

We have a very old house (83 years) with old pipes.

Hi, What your describing is a very common condition with well water and older homes. Most likely the source will be copper from your pipes. You did the right thing by first balancing your water and then shocking it, to kill off any bacteria. Start adding a Metal remover product (usually a stain and scale) (actually doesn’t remove it but makes it inert). Copper and Iron negate the ability for Bromine and chlorine to work properly. Glad to see your paying attention to the hardness of your water too. Make sure it is between 250-400ppm. A great way to clean your spa on the cheap is to use distilled vinegar. Add 4 cups when your getting ready to drain the spa and refill it and run it through a couple of cycles and it will help clean out the pipes. Since it is acidic do not let it sit in the tub for more then an hour.
