Scam or am I paranoid?

I sent a resume and cover letter to an address that was listed on craigslist for a store manager posistion at a salon/spa. The listing did not name the business. When I google search the address, no business listing pops up for it. When I google salon in petaluma, I find nothing with that address.

I also noticed that they have had the same listing up for over 1 month.

Do you think this could be a scam? Why would they want to waste my time and get my work info?
I didn't give my personal info, thankfully! I am going to drive by today....I was thinking that maybe this is the owners office for another job or something?

I know craigslist can be shady, but I've had success finding jobs and all kinds of things using it sooo...I take my chances

I wouldn’t give them any more personal information till you check them out for sure. I hope you didn’t give them your social or drivers license or anything like that. I assume they have your address now. Print out the add and take it to your local police station and see if they can check it or point you in the direction of someone who can. Have you tried driving to the address and seeing if there is a salon or one being built in that spot. You might not have been able find it when you googled because it is new.

Some people put their ssn or sin on their resume. With that they steal your identity. Sounds shady especially craigslist people get scammed every minute.

I would be very careful who I give my information to these days. I have never looked for a job on Craig’s list but if you already have some red flags be cautious. I hope you did not put your social security number anywhere. Maybe it is just an identity theft thing. Maybe. See if you get a response, then hopefully there will be a name you can crosscheck at the Better Business Bureau.

Have you gone to that address to see what is there? I would go to the address that is listed with a friend not to go in but to see what is there.
Could it be a new salon and spa that has recently opened up which could answer the question as to why its not listed yet.

But be very careful the internet is a scary place

You really need to be watching your credit reports now. This most likely was a scam to get personal information. It’s easy for someone to get their identity stolen this way because they give enough personal information.

If you gave them your email address that could be hacked.

All I can say is watch your credit information closely. Also contact Craig’s list to report them.

    Addition after your addition:
Then go for it. Not sure why you asked the question. Drive by and see what’s going on.

    Good luck to you!
