Saltwater Pool? – Yes or No?

My husband and I are moving to a house with an inground pool. We've been toying with the idea of making it a saltwater pool when we first move in. We currently have no children and are trying. We have a boxer dog who will most likely be swimming and drinking the water. The pool also has an attached spa. Any and all comments please!!!!!
From what we have researched.... It's only 20% salt. Dogs can drink it and not get sick. Wouldn't being pregnant with all those freshwater chemicals be worse for me than just salt? And people who have salt water pools say that you can open your eyes and see crystal clear.
The pool is cement/plaster lining.

    Salt all the way. About the only con to a salt generator is their initial price, but you make that difference up in a few seasons over a traditionally chlorinated pool, in operating cost savings. After that, it’s all savings. Don’t forget, a salt pool is still a chlorine pool though. The generator makes chlorine from the salt dissolved in the pool. It’s just in a lower, constant dose, unlike the high sporadic chlorine content of a traditionally chlorinated pool. The salt water is definitely more skin and eye friendly and it’s concentration is actually at between 2500 – 3200 ppm. Sounds like a lot, but you can’t even taste it.
    It’ll be fine with your attached spa as well. As for the Baby question, I’m not a doctor, so can’t answer that, but given the nature of the salt system and it’s lower chlorine content, biologically speaking, it would still be safer than a traditionally chlorinated pool.
    As for the pooch, well, I never recommend anyone letting their animals in a pool because no matter what sanitizing system you use, doing that still puts a fair load on it’s ability to keep your pool water healthy, not to mention if this is a vinyl pool, the chance for Fido to rip the liner.

    I salt water pool is an ok idea. You just have to get the right amount of salt. My parents tried it and it is almost impossible so I don’t recommend it.

    I would NOT get a saltwater pool,because as u said ur boxer dog drinks the water! so if he drinks it, it would make him sick. Go with a regular pool. Trust me it would make life more easier and you save some good money!

    Let’s be honest, if you are trying for kids saltwater is a bad idea. Open your eyes in a saltwater pool (kids will do that). Also the correct amount/proper amount of saltwater is very hard to determine. I think you need to just have a regular freshwater pool!

    isn’t salt water what the ocean is for? a pool is a place to relax, know it’s clean and be as easily maintained as possible. salt water will not allow you to do that!

    I would stick to a regular old fashion chlorine inground pool. That way you have something to look forward to when you decide to take a break from the pool and make it a beach day! (Nice fresh salt water)
    I do know it’s more expensive with salt water fish tanks.. so im assuming a whole pool..will be alot of money wasted.. Fill your gas tank a few times. LOL Enjoy your pool!

    This will be up to you Id say no ,there are different ways for either pools care and equipment salt is higher prices the care is more time consuming and the effects of salt water on deck or patio not to mention your dog You have to have salt sand a salt water filter ect. ect I would suggest you search the to pool options and then decide which you prefer and will be happy with and can afford better.

    I see lots of answers from people who have no idea/experience of what salt water filteration is for swimming pools. I’ve looked into it, and absolutely would consider doing it – it’s cheaper in the long run, easier to maintain, and is without the harsh chemicals and is more like saline than ocean water. Read up on it, check out websites with comments from people who’ve actually tried it – and go for it (if you think it’s for you)!

    A developing fetus is completely unaffected by the amount of chlorine in a pool.
    I worked 8 hours a day at an indoor YMCA pool throughout my entire pregnancy. I checked with both an obstetrician and a pediatrician just to be sure, and they both said it was OK.
    I ended up with a son who is highly gifted (IQ of 150+) and has a low-key personality. There’s really no need for a salt water pool.
