Pool question?

Considering buying a house that has a pool and spa..Would like to know what the cost would be to upkeep it and how much it will cost to run it as well...yearly, monthly however you wish to answer...and it also has solar powers to heat the pool, which kinda helps I suppose...thanks

Depends on where you live. My pool adds about 60.00 a month to my bill. Chemicals cost about 150.00 per season. I live in Phoenix and my season is March – October. I don’t have a spa so I can’t help you on that part. Look at the website for your local utility company, hopefully they have a calculator in there somewhere that figures cost of electricity for household items…mine does. You will have to play with the amount of time you run your cleaning system/filter as that will affect your bill. My sales rep suggested running my filter 8 hours a day….of course he did , he wanted my pool spotless so I wouldn’t call him about anything. I played around and now run my filter 3 hours a day and it is spotless and I don’t pay for 150 hours a month of electricity. Just keep that in mind. Solar power is great, your season will be longer. Pools are a lot of fun and if you have kids you can make them keep it up. If you don’t have kids you are looking at about 10-15 minutes a day upkeep…… more after a storm…and maybe more depending on your cleaning system. Without more detail to your question this is the best information I can give you.

Here is the deal with pools. They are going to cost money to operate and chemicals. A normal size pool isn’t that much power usage but chemicals are about 300.00 + a year for some good chemicals.

The pool stuff sold at Wal Mart and most home supplies may seem cheaper in price but I can attest it won’t last half as long as the supplies sold in a pool supply store. More cost up front but I guarantee you it won’t be half the work and a clean pool all year buying the good stuff.

Here is what I pay for my pool and spa.

For the pool, figure $100 per month in electricity to run the pump. You can drain the pump and filter in the winter and turn if off to save $ during the months it is not in use. Make sure you drain it good or it will freeze and burst. $50 per month for chemicals, more if your kids like to play in lakes and creeks and then get in the pool.

For the spa, about $20 per month for electricity and $20 per month for chemicals.
