Author: John Morris

Companies selling pool accessories like filters and pumps are introducing new models that look stylish and have advanced features in it. Recently, peristaltic pool pump has been launched, which is better than traditional piston pumps. It has special features which allows it to run silently so that that the people around are not disturbed by noise. It is widely used in outdoor swimming pools, leisure centers, and jacuzzis.

A pool filter pump is an indispensable accessory as it is necessary to keep the pool water clean and fresh. The pool filter pumps circulates the water by heating and filtering. When you are planning to buy a pool filter pump you must be very careful about judging its quality, functionality, and guarantee against manufacturing defects. Many people make mistake by giving priority to the designs rather than these factors during the purchase.

Size of a filter pump

In case you buy a large pool filter pump it will consume a lot of electricity while a small pump will not be able to clean your pool properly. Hence, the capacity of a pump is a very crucial factor when you are purchasing it. You should purchase a pump which is an ideal match with your pool volume.

Important Features

An efficient pool pump must include features like timer functions and regulators. The automatic regulator valves help in proper amount of water flow while the timer function helps in controlling the usage of the pump.

Cleaning of the filter pump is essential to keep it in a running condition. You must keep it in mind that the cleaning procedure of the machine you are buying is easy and you don't need to call a professional expert for this purpose.

You can find several good companies that offer pool accessories. Some of the well known brand names are Hayward, Pentiar, Sta-rite and Jandy. yes you can, i use a swimming pool filter on my pond and i use a sump pump to run it, just make sure you cover the intake so you don’t suck up any fish

Can I use a pool filter and pump for a water garden?
I have an old above ground pool pump and want to use it as a water garden pump can this be done?

  3. boby223 says:

Can anyone please tell me why my main circute braeker keeps going off when I turn on the pool filter pump?
I bought a new motor for my pool, since then I am haveing problem with main braeker. If I do not turn on the pool filter —the new motor— I have no problem.
When I do turn on filter, 2 hours of runinig the main braeker goes off. Can anyone tell me why?

When I turn on my pool filter pump it runs great at first the after a little while is slows down?
It runs great at first but then in slows down to a trickle. I clean the filter and replace the DE. Then it runs great for a while then slows down again. The pool is not dirty so I don’t believe it’s being clogged.

Are you sure you’re talking about the main braker? Cause that is the switch that would shut off EVERYTHING in your entire house. First thing to do is to check the electrical connection of the pump at your pool filter. Make sure it’s attached securely, the wires aren’t touching anything else that might be causing a short circuit, and that there’s no water contacting the wires. I presume the cable from the motor to the electical panel in your garage or house is run through conduit underground. If not (which would be illegal if not in conduit), check along the length of the cable for any cuts, etc. Check on the filter motor for the amperage rating. Then go to your electrical panel and make sure that the circuit it is attached to is not a lesser amperage. For example, if your motor is rated at 20 amps, it CANNOT be attached to a 15 amp circuit. You can tell the circuit amperage by looking at the switches in the electrical panel. Each switch will have a number on it (15, 20, 30, etc). These are the amperages of each circuit. Your pool filter should have a dedicated circuit; meaning the cable from your filter should be going directly to the electrical panel and attaching to its own circuit. No other devices should be sharing that circuit. Is your electrical panel full? Maybe you have a panel overload. Check if you have a 100 amp (cheap piece of crap) panel or a 200 amp panel. If you have only a 100 amp panel, maybe you have too many things running that could cause an overload (running air conditioning, washing machines, etc while also running the filter). If you have a 200 amp panel, then an overload should not be the problem. The problem is definitely one of the things I mentioned, so check it out and good luck.

GT is right. I am an Industrial Electrician. Our biggest challenge is keeping pumps and pump motors running. It would be very helpful to check the Amps of the motor right when its cool then see them go up or down when its been running for awhile. If they go up to the point of tripping the breaker its the bearings. If the Amps go down a little at the point of less flow there is something blocking the flow (the pump has less load if it is just spinning inside without moving water or otherwise working). The guys at the home improvement store or electrical shop can help you buy an Amp clamp and get the Amp draw. But check a couple of easy things first. You say its not the filter but check it anyway. Look for trash, plastic bag material, cloth, string, or one of your ball valves is failing inside, in the areas of the intake and the piping before the filters. If you can, check inside the pump casing for trash or sand. If you dont mind the cost, then just install a new pump and motor. It will be instantly conclusive weather its the pump or obstruction. In the end, if you buy a new pump and motor, and its not the problem, you will have a spare for when it does go out.

  7. DGB says:

I presume it is an in-ground pool (you said you replaced the tiles.) If replacing the tiles is all that was worked on, it sounds to me like you still have air in the return lines (all lines for that matter.) I would continue attempting priming the pump with water. It could take a while and patience. I have spent 3-4 hours before priming the pump. Since you have air bubbles, the pump is working, you just have to keep priming it to get the air out of the lines. If this does not work, call a local pool dealer to check it out, you could possibly have an air leak in one of the lines, but not likely.
    Good Luck!

  8. poolman says:

i own a pool company. eight (8) hours a day is plenty. the filter has to have time to filter the whole pool

  9. ccblue33 says:

Why is my pool filter/pump blowing out bubbles. I prime it and then it will be empty.?
We just had our pool drained to replace tile and the pumped worked fine. Now it blows bubbles out. And the part we are suppose to prime, we fill it with water and then it goes empty?

  10. coarsegoldgrannie says:

How often should the pool filter/pump be left on each day?
Its expensive to run–is an hour a day enough in Southern Cal? (We also turn it on for an hour after each time we use the pool.)
