Ph Level very LOW. Chlorine Very High. PH level won't go up?
When I do the self test on my pool water, the ph level is crucialy low but my chlorine is very high. I have added soda ash a few times this week and still my ph level does not budge, and my chlorine level stays high. The water is clear as anything and there is no algae build up anywhere. There is a slippery feel to the water, i know that sounds silly. The water burns the eyes and has a chemically tast to it as well. I don’t know what to do anymore. I am taking a sample of it to a local pool/spa place to get tested. But if anyone has any sugesstions or has had the same problem before I would appreciate any suggestions on what to do? Thank you.

The indicators for pH and chlorine levels are dyes that are relatively resistant to oxidation, but that doesn’t mean that an extremely high chlorine level won’t bleach them. The slippery feel you mention sounds like what a high pH does to the oil in your skin by turning it into soap.
Looks like you have turned your water into hydrochloric acid.
You might try adding soda ash to a test bucket of water, to see if that works; but I am thinking you need lots.
You might talk to someone at the pool chemicals store.
