Outdoor Spas Help you De-Stress

Author: Jennifer Bolduc

For millennia, people have enjoyed the soothing and tranquil powers of the hot bath.  In fact, ancient Romans loved the comforting and relaxing atmosphere of the hot bath that they built their entire existence around it.  Today's outdoor spas are scaled down versions of the Roman bath that can help you to unwind and de-stress at the end of a long, endless day.  Many people swear by their outdoor spas not just for relaxation purposes, but for entertaining friends and family as well.

Outdoor spas are sometimes referred to as hot tubs, or even as Jacuzzis - which actually refers to a popular brand name. Typical outdoor spas come in a diverse array of shapes and styles, with sizes ranging from the smaller two person spa to large family sized tubs that create a party atmosphere.  When buying a spa, your purchase should be based on your requirements and the space you have designated for installing it outdoors.

Choosing Outdoor Spas

Most outdoor spas are purchased for relaxation and fun, but some are bought with the intentions of using them for therapy purposes, such as for help with medical problems like arthritis.  Some are big enough to allow for swimming laps against the resistance of water jets - and may be referred to as a swim spa for that reason.  Determine the purpose for your spa before selecting one, as there is a difference in models based on what you will use it for; for instance, a spa that is designed for therapy may have more jets than a simple relaxation tub.  A spa for relaxing may also be smaller than one used for exercise.  And for those who are looking to entertain in the tub, you will want to look at outdoor spas that will accommodate a larger number of people and that is customized with features like waterfalls, a sound system, and lighting.

Taking a Test Swim

Outdoors spas are sold by a number of manufacturers, from high end retailers that specialize in pools and spas to big box retailers like Wal-Mart or Home Depot that sell cheaper models of lesser quality. Keep in mind, when purchasing your spa that going with a dealer who specializes in selling a particular brand of spa will make service and repairs easier. Most spa retailers will have a showroom with several popular models set up and ready for a "test swim", and encourage those who are in the market for an outdoor spa to stop by with swimsuit in hand to take a dip and experience what the spa has to offer before buying.  And while many spa retailers will send a salesperson out to your home if you request them to do so, there is no substitute for trying a particular spa out firsthand, or perhaps taking a test swim to compare two or more models at once.  When taking your test swim, be sure to turn on all the jets and try out all the features - and be sure to bring along your significant other or friend so that you can get their opinion as well.

Termites in Hot tub plumbing pipes?
Help. I have a large termite infestation in my outdoor hot tub, Jacuzzi, spa…. They eat the filter out in about 1 week and appear to be coming out the air hoses and not the water hoses. Any advice on how to get the m OOUT!

    Cheers
    JP

This is not trivial. Disconnect the power to the unit. There may be a short forming. Call an inspector and have the whole property inspected for termites as they are likely to be eating in other places as well. Get the termites controlled and then have the tub serviced. Termites will eat through insulation and once they are gone, their dried out workings are often flammable.

Air hoses are usually a softer plastic than the water pipes, that’s why they get penetrated first. Chances are there is a minor water leak that attracting them.

Christmas in vegas whats up ?
Think of going to vegas from 24-27, in assuming everything is still open on x mas day ? is there anything going on ? also I need a hotel with a outdoor hot tub / spa ,,

All casinos and hotels are open 24/7/365 even on Christmas Day, but some shops and restaurants will close (mostly off-Strip, but also a few on the Strip). Many live shows ‘go dark’ (that is, they don’t perform) between Christmas and New Year’s.

There are only a few hotels with outdoor hot tubs / swimming pools open in winter, when it can be cold, rainy and near-freezing temperatures in Vegas. Try the MGM Grand, which keeps at least one pool and hot tub open year-round, weather permitting. The Tropicana walls off part of its swimming pool complex, so it’s indoors, during winter — it stays fairly warm and tropical in there.

OK – Just to be sure – Needs to be a 5 * place, thought I had that in the original question ;)

accomodation with a spa in the hunter valley?
we (4 people) are looking for a cabin or cottage/house to rent for the weekend soon in the hunter valley in NSW. Ideally it would cost somewhere between $350-$450 for the whole weekend. (For the whole place, not per couple or per night.)

We also would love to have an outdoor spa/hot tub. WE have found a few places that have a spa and 2 bedrooms for between $380-500 but they are in vacy, and we were hoping to be closer to the cessnock/lovedale area.

any help would really be appreciated. We have been through every website known to man, so we aren’t looking for a link to a search page, just hoping that someone has some personal experience they’d like to share.

    Thanks again

I did a search for “Hunter Valley Australia Spa” over at http://www.resideo.com/ (I just love their search feature) and found the following:

    Potters Hotel & Brewery
    http://www.resideo.com/au/newsouthwales/cessnock/09026339.hotel
It’s in Cessnock, but I’m not sure if the rooms have hot tubs (when you check for availability, click the room name for a list of room features).

Now — there were a few other matches when I did that search, but not sure if they are any better than the one above. But, check it out!

Good luck, and have a great trip!

Do agree that in today’s fast paced life, that every Mum needs some time to herself…preferably in a spa?
    Even leopard Mums…!

London, July 9 (ANI): It seems that leopards too believe in beauty treatments, for a wild big cat was recently caught on camera taking a break from her cubs with a relaxing dip in an outdoor spa hot tub.
She even found time for a rest on a lounger after her wash.
In the picture, the big cat can be seen creeping onto the balcony of a cabin in Tintswalo Safari Lodge, in South Africa.

Guests stood at a safe distance and watched the leopard, capable of killing a buffalo, slip into the warm bubbling water at dusk.

The big cat took her dip outside the lodges spa centre, usually frequented by human visitors for pampering and beauty treatments.
“We were all watching from a safe distance because this was a wild big cat, it was absolutely amazing to watch her take a bath just like one of us,” the Telegraph quoted Mike Clarke, from Tintswalo Safari Lodge, which lies on the edge of the Kruger National Park, as saying.

“We have had a few leopard mothers who stay close to the lodges because of the safety of it when they have cubs. “This mum must have decided it was time for some time to herself and decided to come over to the spa.

“She acted just like a person might do after a hard day at work or with the kids.

“After she had relaxed and decided she was clean enough, she simply got up and made her back into the bush, it was incredible,” he added.

Clarke, who helps run the 5,000-a-night lodge, revealed that the cat was caught on camera just three weeks ago by staff at the park.
“We offer everything you could imagine at the park, but nowadays we are getting leopards, lions, buffalo and even herds of elephants coming through, it’s a very special experience,” he said.

“Obviously we make sure all the guests are safe because these are still wild animals and our wardens make sure everyone is aware of what’s going on,” he added. (ANI)
Edit: No clue Haz…lol..maybe they’ve had as bad a day as i did! Maybe we all need some spa time…!
