Lately, after my pool pump stops running, the spa drains partly out..why?

My spa overflows into to the pool when the pump is running, and therefore, the liquid level in the spa is higher than the pool. When the pump is turned off, the higher liquid level in the spa, can flow backward through the pump and the valves at the pump station and back into the pool. It doesn't mean your losing water.

Also, given the volume of the spa relative to pool, a few inches of level change in the spa will be difficult to detect in the pool.

My swimming pool does the same thing when it leaks out the gasket on the pump. The water is fine while the pumps runs, but when it shuts off, the water starts to leak. You may have the same problem.

Spa drain valve is left open or a bad check valve. There are other reasons, but these are the 2 most common.
