You need good and hot summers to enjoy a pool.I have had an in ground pool for 10 years. It does cost more to insure your home, and it cost’s about $60.00 a month to run the heater.Add another $40.00 for chemicals per month and you are looking at about $100.00.I enjoy it and my kids and neighbors love it so the cost doesn’t really matter.

Thicker is better and will last longer. It shouldn’t separate from the wall if it is fit properly. Excessive chlorine can cause the liner to shrink and you need to make sure the water level doesn’t get low. The water holds the liner in place.

It depends on numerous factors. Site access, size and type of pool, # and experience of the installation crew, sub contractors doing their bit on time and the weather. A company I once worked for, installed a 16X32 vinyl liner inground and had it filled , running and heating in 3 days from the initial dig. The excavation itself took the better part of one day of that. The site access was easy and the weather was perfect for all stages of construction. No additional landscaping was ordered, so that also made completion quicker.
The process can take 3 days to 3 weeks.

When buying a inground pool liner, is it better to go with the thicker ones?
My husband and I are buying a replacement liner for our inground pool. We’ve have noticed that liners vary in the “mils” We have seen them as thin as 16 mils and as thick as 30 mils”. We don’t know whcih is better. Common sense tells us thicker would be more durable, but someone told us that the thicker ones are heavier and in turn, might start to tear away from the pool walls. Does anyone have any reccomendations on how thick of a pool liner to buy?

Thinking about buying a home with an inground pool?
We are househunting in Peterborough Ontario. The house we like has an inground swimming pool. We would probably use it all Summer, but wonder what we should consider before putting in an offer on the house. How does an inground pool affect your homeowners insurance ? What costs should be factored into keeping the pool clean and maintained ? What additional costs are involved ? What about opening and closing the pool each Season ? How does heating the pool affect your hydro bill ? If anyone has bought a home with an inground pool, what advice would you offer someone thinking about it ? Thanks to all who can help !

How do I get rid of Red spider mites around inground pool?
I believe that is what they are called, they are tiny, red, leave a red smear when you kill them, and they run really fast. They are everywhere around my inground pool, which is surrounded a concrete patio. They are even getting into the water because I stuck my hand in the skimmer basket, and my hand came out with dead ones stuck to it. What can I use to kill them?? Is it safe around the pool water?

Hose down the affected area, then try some of these remedies:
Rubbing alcohol, vegetable &/or horticultural oils, and soaps will either suffocate or dessicate the mites.

Some people use a 1:3 mixture of rubbing alcohol to water, mixture, to get rid of Red Spider mites.

    Also try this solution:
1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol (80% or more)
1/2 tsp of a mild liquid dish soap
put in a 25-32 oz spray bottle
    Fill with water, shake well.

    Or
    Murphy’s Oil Soap spray:
    1/3 cup Murphy’s Oil Soap
    1 tablespoon baking soda
    1 gallon water.

Insecticidal soaps, derived from organic soaps like Castile soap, kill mites. The usual recipe is about 2-3 drops of castile soap for every quart of water.” (1)

The gardenweb.com site debates Old Spider Mite Remedies such as the home-made rubbing alcohol/soap/water mix … Murphy’s Oil Soap spray… and…
    even a buttermilk solution. (2)
It works for them! They also discuss Safers insecticidal soap, & Neem oil.

Natural predators such as ladybugs devour many times their weight in garden pests like spider mites.

If all else fails the most common miticides are Avid, Kelthane, and just about anything that contains pyrethoids.

Can you turn your inground pool that has a liner into a concrete pool?
We have an inground pool that has a vinyl liner. The liner pulled away from the side and allowed water to leak down under the liner causing the bottom of the pool to feel mushy. The substance that we laid down was some kind of pool cement when we built the pool years ago. Can we just pull the liner out and shovel out that old cement and pour new in and also around the steel walls so we don’t have to mess with another liner problem?

  10. Green Drank says:

Yeah but pouring concrete is EXPENSIVE. If you are willing to pay then you can absolutely do it, you already got the hole!
