Indoor Hot Tub?

I decided to bring my hot tub inside and make an indoor hot tub room. But I need some help...



1. What is the best type of vapor barrier wall covering for underneath cedar?

2. Where can I find the right ventilation system that can handle the water vapor from the hot tub?

3. I have matte finish non-slip tile for the flooring, but do I need special trim along the walls?

4. Is there any thing else I should keep in mind?

5. The hot tub will be placed near an exterior wall. What should I do to make sure later I will be able to fill and drain the tub properly?

The room will be heated and the floor suports are very adequate for holding a full hot tub. Thanks for your help!

    1. You will not want cedar anywhere near the hot tub. It won’t last. You’ll want to put tile or shower stall type backing up around the tub if it is placed in a corner. There is Green-board that goes up instead of sheetrock that is a special type of sheetrock that will need to go in behind anything you put up. Sheetrock will absorb the water, mold mildew and fall apart.
    2. As far as draining the tub I would reccomend piping it into the sewer system so that when it drains it will go out down the drain. Unless a drain could be installed in the floor through the tile. and it could drain in the floor.
    3. Tile has it’s own backing board, akin to concrete.
    4. Venting, well I wouldn’t know what to say unless you could place some vents in the ceiling if your bathroom doesn’t have anything up.

    We moved our hot-tub into our Florida room. We leave the screened windows open about an inch and have indoor/outdoor carpeting down on the slab. The drain is facing the screen door so all we have to do is hook up a water-hose to the drain. We keep the tub set at 100 degrees year round and have not had any problems with mold,leaks slips etc.

    I would contact a basement waterproofing company. They should be able to help you out with preventing moisture in the room with the hot tub. This site should give you some good tips.
