I put WAY to much chlorine in my spa, any ideas on how to fix this problem?

I'm not an idiot I know I can empty and refill it. That's not an option, It's inside my house. Neither is leaving the cover off, I have to live in this house and the fumes are STRONG. I accidently dropped the WHOLE can of granulated chlorine in and I'm at a loss as to what's the best way to deal with this situation. Any USEFULL answers are welcome. Thanks

The drain connects to a hose and If I drain it to the lawn it will kill my grass. It's basically a tub of bleach.

drain some off and add water dissconect the drain line and see if you can get it to drain into you tub or a fllor drain or plump the line to the cube so it drains into the citys system

Try calling some local pool or spa companies. You can't be the first person this has ever happened to.

I know there are fishtank chemicals to declorinate the water, so there must be something like that out there for pools and spas.

    Good luck!

ummm, well you could try to neutralise it. It's not actually a tub of bleach because bleach is strongly alkaline, and chlorine is strongly acidic. Try adding bicarbonate of soda, but you still end up with excess chlorine ions…
I'm afraid you may really have to empty and refill, slowly using buckets away from grass or siphoning it off if necessary. Unless you can purchase a reactive filter that removes chlorine. I believe they exist at pool shops and the like…

call the spa company and ask which is the best de-chlorinator to buy….

Call a local pool company and ask them if they have chlorine neutralizer in stock. Chances are they have it on the shelf. This is a common problem with swimming pools.

Add lime to water.Stay out of it until levels are correct again. about 2 weeks.

Go the grocery store and buy 5-10 big boxes of baking soda.
The baking soda will help neutralize the bleach. Add as much water to the tub as possible, without overflowing it, as this will further dilute the bleach. After it circulates well, drain to the lawn. At this point, killing some lawn is better than destroying the pump on that tub!

Time. That is all that you can do. Just wait it out and the chlorine will evaporate out of the water. You can drain some and add more water. If you have a public water supply, it is already chlorinated and will not help the matter much.

UV light is the best for removing the chlorine, but you said the spa was inside, so you’re limited on that. A pool supply might have some remedies for you that are faster, but I don’t know of any.

Even with the cover on, you’re going to smell the chlorine. You’re going to need to watch the PH, since the chlorine will mess that up too.

If you go to a pet store you can get a fish water treatment that kills chlorine You will probably need several small bottles to do it but it will probably be worth it. The one I use is called Tapsafe but there are many similar products on the market.

The recommended dosage for fish is one drop per gallon and there are a lot of drops per bottle.
You can also get a product called Pondsafe that does the same job but comes in larger bottles and may be more economical, You should be able to get this from garden centres.
