How would you suggest we go about removing a 6 foot black rat snake from our hot tub in our gazebo?

Just what I said. There's a 6 foot rat snake apparently living in the gazebo inside of the hot tub. There's stuffing removed from the hot tub cover and everything. We're trying to figure out what the best way to remove it would be since none of us want to get too close to it even though they're fairly harmless.

Suggestions?
Well, Crystal, being cautious about a snake has nothing to do with being "grown up". Maybe you should take your own advice.

Thanks everyone else. We ended up just making a team effort and we got it out of the hot tub cover and into a bucket. We drove it to a forested area and let it go free there. :)

Obviously, you don’t want the snake to hurt you. You, on the other hand, don’t want to hurt the snake either. There should be an animal welfare or someone at the health department, who could give you some quick assistance. I wish you much success and that the animal people come shortly too. Peace!!!

well since none of you want to get near it you need to find someone that is not afraid of snakes to just reach in there and take it out. If I were close I would do it. If I can handle the bite of my 12 foot burmese python i am sure I can handle the bite of a six foot black snake

Well, first of all, don’t panic. We have many many snakes here in Georgia and rat snakes are often welcomed by folks as a natural protector to stay in the root cellars and barns and such. You most likely have an animal control officer or "dog catcher" in your county who would be fine with packing it up and moving it out.Blessings. P.s. it’s animal control’s job and you pay their salary in taxes.

Stay away from it, just in case.

Call Animal Control in your area. There should be something under a similar name in the County or City sections of your White Pages.

If you still can’t find it, call the mayor’s office, your city councilman, or whatever exists in the way of your city services or county resources and ask them for the name and number of the city or county agency that deals with wild animals.

Animal Control will send a professional to your home, at no charge, to deal with the animal properly. I’ve had to call them more than once in Los Angeles, and they will not respond if the animal is dead; in that case you have to call city or county Dead Animal Removal or whatever it’s called near you.

If all else fails, call the local pound, which is run by Animal Control, or the ASPCA or the American Humane Society and ask them how to get help.

Of course, all of this is in lieu of hiring a pest control company that deals with snakes. It’s an option if you don’t mind spending the money, but make sure they are sending an experienced snake wrangler.

    Good luck!

Well, you could grow up, get a hold if it from behind its head and put it somewhere else.
