Well, an acre is over 43,000 square feet, so you could get away with only one … remember that the footprint of the house isn’t a full 6500 square feet, unless you’re talking about a really sprawling ranch house. You’ll probably be happier with at least two acres, though.

(Don’t forget that the larger your lot, the more taxes you’re going to need to pay!)

Zoning in different states require different amounts.

SOme places in VA you can’t build ANYTHING without 10 ac.

It depends on the town’s zoning regulations

  5. Carolyn says:

You need to take town zoning requirements into consideration. Check with the town to see what is required. Some towns have 5 to 10 acre minimum zoning in my area.

How big of a pool? Pool house? Contact me if you would like to discuss:)

It depends on local building and zoning codes. Talk to a reputable general contractor who can advise you on requirements. For this size house with a big backyard, pool etc. you would probably want a couple of acres. For resale purposes in the future I would think that 5 acres would be best.

Well there is 43560 sq feet in an acre. How many acres you want and how many acres you need are 2 different things. You want the most you can afford, you need the least your zoning board requires to build that size house. Let’s be serious, if your in the market to build that size house your not looking for the answers on Yahoo…LOL…
