How do you get the scum out of hot tubs?

My family has a 4-6 regular size hot tub out back and we used it once in a while. It was always tended to chemically and was regularly drained but theres this mold like algae growing inside of it. Especially around the top near the filter (probably because its stagnant over there). it keeps coming back although we have cleaned and drained it. Im suspecting the cover to be the culprit but i dont have alot of hot tub no how. Any suggestions?

If you’re not intending to use it anytime soon, try raising the chlorine level to a bit higher than recommended. After raising the chlorine level, run it to circulate the water for at least 5 minutes. The chlorine level should be checked at least every 3 days.

I’m not sure what kind of top you have but it wouldn’t hurt to take it off and clean and disinfect it.

Had the same problem .. the Spa store sold us an acid to circulate through the pump, then drain, rinse , refill. Can’t remember what the name of the product was though.

Hi, There are many typs of mold. Email me directly and takea photo or just dscribe it in more detail. Since depending on the type can make a the treatment be different. The lady above that said to raise the sanitizer level is correct for the most part. To clean your cover without buying a more expensive cover cleaning product use distilled vinegar, and then a concentration of sodium dichlor shock concentrate and let it sit a bit on the spots and around the area when you apply it then just wiping it off. If your using chlorine I would switch over to Bromine since it is more stable at higher temps.
