how do i close my hot tub for the winter?

Hi guys...I live in new jersey.. and I need to close my hot tube now. should i empty it out? I jus moved into the house and dont have a manual..any suggestions as to what i need to do in order for me to close the hot tub and not waste anymore electricty? I have a cover for it..is it useful?

    If you can handle the electric bills, keep it open and use it! Nothing finer than sitting in the hot tub with snow on the ground sipping hot cocoa with friends and lovers! If not, you can keep it filled but you will want to keep it circulating and keep the minimum amount of chems in it. If you want to go total dormant, then you want to check to see if your tub is gonna 'float' if you empty it. If you can drain it without it popping out of the ground your in like flint! Just drain it and clean the walls then best to put a cover over it. Good luck!

    my recommendation to you is to use RV antifreeze that is sold at hardware stores for toilets and sink traps.
    drain the tub and fill the low points and then try to put it in the highest points like the nozzles.

    the thing is that you want to get it into system

    an air compressor is always an option as well.

    I would not close the hot tub, this is the best time to have one (why would you want to sit in hot water when it's 90 degrees out already?). If you really don't want to use it, you might just turn down the heat to 65 or 70 and let it run that way, keeping the cover on it. I'm not sure if you tried to drain it out if you would get all the water out of the pipes anyway.

    don't close it. Like someone else said, keep the water temperature cool, the lid on, and the electricity bill will hardly be noticeable.

    You risk the pipes freezing if there is even a small amount of water left.
