Deck Hot Tubs Plan Ahead

Author: Sam Spade

If you are lucky enough to have a Cedar hot tub in your back yard, then you will probably want to incorporate this into your landscaping layout somehow, and the most common and attractive way to do this is to install your hot tub onto a decking. This article lists out the steps as simply as possible that you need to follow, if you are going to be installing Cedar hot tubs yourself.

1. Choose your location. This needs to be a square, 8 foot by 8 foot. It is easier if this is a flat area. Dig stakes into each corner, and measure the diagonals, corner to corner. Both diagonals should be equal size - about 11 foot 3 inches.

2. Use a string to join up each stake, and join up the diagonals, making an 'X' shape. Where the X crosses, this will mark out the center - put a stake in this position.

3. Pound in four more stakes, in the center of each side of the square. Also pound stakes in between the center and these four posts, 32 inches from the center.

4. Now you need to put in four more stakes, by measuring 32" up and across from two of the last stakes you put in. This will mean you have a total of nine stakes within the square.

5. Where each of the stakes are, you need to dig a 15 inch by 15 inch square, and fill each of these newly dug holes with 2 to 3 inches of sand.

6. Use a shovel to level out the sand in each of these holes.

7. Place the footing of your deck on top of the sand, and wiggle it around until it is level in both directions. Use a spirit level to make sure it is perfectly level. Do the same for each of the nine holes that have the footing in.

8. Next, you need to tamp any loose soil into the gaps around the footings, so that they are solidly in place and can't move.

9. Now you'll have nine completed footings inside the middle of your 8 foot square. The next thing to do is to nail two 8 foot boards that are 2 inch by 6 inch, together. Do this three times, which will leave you with 3 beams, 4" by 6".

10. Set the post in the center first. The posts need to be whatever height you want your deck. Make sure all posts are the same height.

11. Place 'post to beam' ties on each of the posts, using the holes provided to nail them through. Place the beam over the outside posts, and do this at the other side. Fill in the nail patterns for each beam.

12. Nail a joist, 2" by 6" to each end of the beams. To the ends of each of these joists, nail a rim joist.

13. Mark the joists on the outside every 6.35 inches. You need to nail the decking boards so that they cover the rim joist.

Following these steps should leave you with a perfect deck platform to put your hot tub!

How can you find out if a married man is leading a double life?
A few years ago, I was looking through a catalog and decided to order Victorias Secret. When I was ready to give my method of payment the lady on the phone asked if I wanted the stuff sent to (my husband’s name) p.o. box. I asked my husband right then and there if he wanted it sent to his p.o. box. He denied having one. There is only one last name like ours in our city. In the state, only his two brothers have the same last name. I called a major real estate company in our city about a home I saw for sale. The agent said is that the home I showed you last week? In shock, I said I wasn’t sure because we looked at several with different agents (to get more information). Then he said I was the one who showed you the home on Redbud Lane and asked if I was the one that was with him. Well….when I asked my husband about it he said he called a number in a homes magazine and it was just a sales tactic. I let it go. Then on christmas morning, my husband had just gotten a new cell phone and whoever had the new number called Private name/private number so the wrong person wouldn’t get the call. He was in the shower and I asked him to give me the password and he did, but I heard part of a icky sweet woman wishing him merry christmas…when he took the phone to finish listening. I told him let me hear it again. Guess what, he accidently deleted the message trying to replay it. (?) I started noticing my name was no longer on the bills and utilities coming to the home when I tried to make a payment on some accts. Then today, I call a place that sells hot tubs and he says I showed you one about 30 ago didn’t I. (only last name in city) I said no, asked husband–he denied it. He depleted the equity in all three vehicles, the home we were in 10 years through refinancing (didn’t know we got checks), his retirement acct, borrowed $58,000 from his boss and didn’t tell me until I found stubs, opened a checking in his name only (said to pay bills acct.) What is going on?
I blew up and tried to leave–he said he would rather die than get a divorce from me. He keeps wanting to take me on vacations out of the country — went to Mexico (I went but didn’t want to). That was a couple years ago and now he wants to go to Puerto Rico? I feel kind of scared. He doesn’t seem the type, but our of the blue our insurance company called to come take blood for the policy, I told them I was a SAHM so why is there such a large policy on me? I told them no, that was before trip to Mexico. Everyone likes my husband and he seems to want to go out of his way for all of us, but…
Well, I guess I am stupid then because all of it is 100% true. Not one lie. sorry
We got a letter from the IRS that said they audited our 2005 taxes and the woman said he made 193,000 in the 2005. I said he never made that much and I read my 1040 to her and that accounted for the 58,000 he didn’t file taxes on. Yes, I guess I am a fool in denial.
I swear to God above this is NOT a lie. I am very concerned about who I could be married to and that is why the long long question. This is serious.

Can an employer keep your last commision check?
My husband worked for company that sold Hot Tubs. He worked there for 2 years. He was paid $250.00 weekly salary and then 5% on every hot tub that he sold. He would not get his commision on his Hot tubs sold until they actually were delivered to the customer. When my husband left he still had 5 hot tubs that were yet to go out. His ex boss paid him his first couple checks. However, this last check was going to be around a 1,000.00. His boss has decided that he is not going to pay him the rest of his commisions. His boss is real jerk and has a huge turn over rate on employers. the reason my husband left was bc his boss questioned his intregity saying that my husband does not “think or act” how a real christian should. Though i am sure we could have sued, we decided not to. Now his boss is saying that because my husband has probably given out free filters or chemicals ($30.00-$50.00) to customers to get a sale, he is not entitled to his last commission checks. Can he do that
Well that was my question…. is it illegal?? what do we need to do? Sue in claims court? i also heard something about the owner being charged a fine everyday that he keeps the check.
Anything that he “put in extra” with a customer, he was paid for himself. We have check stubs that show his boss deducting whatever item it was, i.e, filter, chemical, from my husbands paycheck. it was all legit.

My experience says this is not a deal breaker. Also, once people have chosen their home, they dont want to back out. Work out the current problem like this. Tell them there is a leak. If you want to avoid a confrontations, tell they you will reduce the purchase price by like $200 – not a lot but my guess is they will take it. They can demand you fix it, but you can say no. Finally, get your realtors opinion. They often have a better sence for what may work. good luck.

    Question about selling our home…?
We are only two weeks away from closing…we have offered to leave all appliances and the outdoor hot tub. The buyers stated they did not want to bother with home warranty insurance. I am a wreck now because our 8-year-old hot tub (which we just put in a new motor and ozonator on) now has a major leak that will require a professional to fix. But this does not guarantee that this hot tub won’t have problems AFTER the closing. We don’t really want to fork out the money to try to save this old hot tub (we had decided even before we decided to move that if the hot tub started dying that we would just get rid of it and buy something new…unfortunately this didn’t occur until after the whole process started). Can this be a deal breaker? Can the buyers demand we fork out the money to fix it? Aren’t appliances and such left after sale on a home left in “as is” condition? We have our realtor talking to theirs now but I can’t help but worry about it. Any thoughts?
I have instructed our realtor to talk to their side already. This was a problem that happened two days ago, so we had no knowledge of any of this beforehand. We went ahead on our own and had other stuff done to the tub just because we didn’t want them to have any problems. In fact the new motor and ozonator are working perfectly. We definitely did not expect this to occur. We had considered offering them like $300+ if they would like for a down payment on a new one and we would have the tub removed. I don’t have a clue if the hot tub was the main selling point of our home in their eyes.

I agree at this point let nature take its course, but I would be making a file on the listing, down loading things like the change the non-hot tub listing etc

For in the end the sale will only be approved if you signed of or the judge orders the sale (note: that option is last resort and very unlikely If you are reasonable in your demands and have evidence)

I think my EX and the realistate agent are working together… what can I do about it?
I have been trying to sell my house for a year now with no luck. We are in the middle of a very ugly divorce and my husband listed the house. There is hot tub in the back yard that was listed as part of the house sale. I looked on line and saw that it was no longer listed with the house, and in fact the pictures of the house we taken so that you could not see the hot tub. After calling the agent I was told that it was an oversight and it would be corrected but has not been. After talking with her today I found out that it was not listed and that my Ex had asked her to take it off and she simply lied to me about it. Also at today’s meet it was made very clear to me that the agent and my EX are very good friends socialize. I feel now as if I can not trust the agent at all and that she is lying and working very hard to cover his tracks.

Should I buy a house or condo?
Hello. I am looking to buy a place in Florida. I am retired, but I’m 47. My wife sadly passed two years ago. I have found two really great places in Palm Beach Gardens.

    1. There is a condo in a high rise building that is for sale. I’ve looked at it, and it looks great. The elevators go directly to your own private lobby or foyer. It is a 3 bedroom 4 bath. Huge views of the Atlantic ocean everywhere. A wraparound Lanai, tile flooring, huge walk in closet, huge master bath with his and her showers, jacuzzi. The building also has a pool, private beach, hot tub, sauna, steam, bar, dining room, and theater. It is 24/7 secure, 24/7 concierge and room service. The only problem is, I love golfing, so I would have to purchase membership at a club 3 miles out, and play there. Also, valet and a garage and dock for boat.

    2. The second place is a house in a golf/resort gated community also located in Palm Beach. Again, it is 24/7 security and gate house. The house is a 4 bedroom, 5.5 bath. My taste for interior is modern white flooring, with modern dark wood furniture. However, since this house was built in 1990′s, it is very old looking. I would definitely need to re model most of the house. It comes with a pool, hot tub, and dock. Also, the house has theater, elevator, living, huge kitchen, huge dining, huge master, huge master bath. The best thing though, is that this house is in this wonderful community. Two 18 hole courses, public pool and hot tub, spa, sauna, steam, tennis courts, bridge room, four different dining rooms, business center, and hotel/resort/concierge style staff that cater to any desire, also, I could drive a golf cart around the community. They also have food delivery, catering, and geat big parties throughout the year. I even hear, that in the more expensive deleopment across the street, Michael Jordan is building a house. But, I would also have valet service.

so I’m really stumped on which to get. I have a pretty large boat and a car. I have a small apartment in Chicago, so I would probably be down south in the fall, winter, and a little in the summer. The condo would be great for being on my own, and I like it because it is high up, and for the views. But the house is in a huge community where I could socialize. Please help me.
