The importance of a hot tube cover

Author: Britney Simpson

If you already have a hot tub, you probably already know the importance of having a hot tub cover as well. Here, you will get information as to why you having a hot tub cover is a must and how to choose and then maintain your replacement hot tub cover once your old one has worn out and needs to be discarded. Basically a spa cover or hot tub cover safeguards the hot tub from impurities like leaves, insects and dust. And if your hot tub is located out of doors, then a spa cover is all the more important else you might even have frogs getting into your hot tub.

Besides, a hot tub cover safeguards pets as well as children from the hot tub. How many times do we hear that a child has drowned in a hot tub! This is something that parents have to take care of. If your old cover has worn out or does not close effectively make sure you get a replacement hot tub cover immediately. These spa covers are normally quite heavy so the hot tub is safe for children or pets which might be unattended even for a few minutes. Since the spa cover is heavy, children are not able to lift it without the help of an adult thereby keeping them away from the hot tub.

The hot tub cover protects your tub from exposure to direct sunlight which can harm your hot tub. A good spa cover should be able to protect the tub against the UV rays of the sun and this is normally achieved depending on the material used as well as the thickness of the hot tub cover. So if you are on the verge of purchasing a replacement hot tub cover, do keep this in mind. Also, remember that the spa covers outdoors will wear out sooner than those indoors as they are exposed to the harsh rays of the sun.

It can be pretty expensive to maintain a hot tub and more so if you take into account the cost of electricity required to maintain the heat within the tub. Your hot tub cover should be made from material that helps in retaining the heat within. Normally hot tub covers are insulated with the help of a material known as expanded polystyrene. So if you are about to buy a new spa cover or if you are getting a replacement hot tub cover, keep in mind that the thickness of the cover plays a big role in deciding its heat retention capability.

Most tubs come along with a hot tub cover. However, there may be instances when you have to purchase a replacement hot tub cover. Make sure you check the specifications of your hot tub before you buy the cover; double check with the dealers if you are not sure. The outer covering of hot tub covers may be made from various materials but the insulating foam is same in all kinds of spa covers. You must make sure that the outer material is able to resist mildew. Do remember all the tips we have shared with you and enjoy your soak in the tub.

hot tube repairs, what can be used to clean a hot tub filter?
Is there a home solution one can use to clean a hot tube filter besides using the expensive commercial solutions?

At this point I recommend you take a water sample to a pool store for analysis. They will explain what you need to do. Get a good test kit and ask them to show you how to use it. You will need a sanitizer- typically in a spa bromine is preferred over chlorine. You will also need chemicals to raise/lower pH and total alkalinity. These last are for water balance. They make the water easier on both the user and the spa equipment. When adding chemicals THINK SMALL! It is really easy to overdose a spa because of the small volume of water. Better to add a pinch and test than to add a tablespoon only to find you’ve added too much.

You should probably only use it 2-4 times, an hour at a time. It seems reasonable.

I want to put a hot tube on my deck and I need to know what size beam and posts to use?
The hot tub is 7’6″ x 7.5′ square and has a filled weight of 4000 lbs. I figure I would add another 1000 lbs. for people weight for a total of 5000 lbs. live load. 5000 / (7.5 • 7.5) = 88.9 lbs. per square foot. Plus dead load of 15 psf, and I end up with a total of 104 psf which I need to support.
The deck joists will be pressure treated 2×6 place on 16″ centers and the top decking material will be 2×6′s placed flat on the joists and screwed down with 3″ deck screws.

What I need to find out is what size beams should I use and how far should I space out my post holes. I want to use pressure treated 4×4 for my posts, placed on concrete pier blocks that will be cemented into my post holes.. I think I have everything covered except how to calculate my beam size, spans and spacing.

Also keep in mind that you will need a 60 Amp gfci circuit to the hot tub w/3 wire #6 THHN…that will be three wires plus a ground….good luck to you..its a fun project

Lowes sell a great filter cleaner for around $6.00.
I guess you could just remove the filters and flush it out w/clean water. Then soak in a tub of water with bleach for 2 to 3 hours.Flush again w/clean water reinstall.
depending on the use and number of people using the tub.
I change my water & clean filters every 6 weeks.
Make sure that the chemincals are satisfactory at each use
