HOT TUB please anybody I NEED HELP!!!!!!!?

I recently bought a hot springs spa from a friend and it sat in his yard for a while. He tells me he did not have this problem when he used it. A white-yellow sticky scum keeps appearing on my water line followed by a rash and i can't get rid of it. I've tried bleach, cascade, system flush and some other flusher, plus replaced all the hosing attached to all the pumps. The place i find most of the build up is in the heating element, looks like cocoons in there after only a couple days. All my chemical readings are right on. Can anyone help or is this tub a lost cause?????

Unfortunately, this sounds like what is referred to as "body film." It’s a combination of the oils from your skin / lotion / deodorant, detergent left in your swimsuit, etc. You can try showering before you get in the spa, and when you wash your swimsuit, use vinegar instead of laundry detergent.

It may also be from hard water.

There are chemicals you can get at your spa store to take care of these. Make sure you’re buying spa-specific chemicals, as the higher temperature makes the water different from pool chemistry.

This is probably not the answer you want to hear, but I think you need a real professional here. Any time you are going to immerse your body in something you want to know what it is… On the other hand, if you think about it, hot tubs have very few components… so the contaminant must be in one of just a few places and will probably be quickly taken care of once it is determined exactly what is going on.

I know you posted your question a while ago, but I just got on here, so hope this helps!
We have a hot-tub and I think it could be a build up in the water of body oils. We use a product called renew that helps with body/ clothes build up. the laundry detergent that you are using could have a ot of fillers and these are not good for hot-tubs either.
As far as the cocoons, first thing I thought of was spiders, but that seems really quick for them to ‘build back up’.
You could call a place where you are from that sells hot-tubs and ask them. we have had out hot-tub for 5 years now and the company we brought it from has been brought out and all different people, but they are still willing to help us with any questions we have. I would have said something in the pipes, but you have replaced all the hosing, what about the filter? those things get pretty nasty. They have filter cleaner that you can buy and you just pour the amount it tells you and sit your filter in there for about 12 hours and then spray really well with water. I do mine in the kitchen sink with my sprayer and i will stand there and open up the folds in the filter to make sure i get it clean. could be this.
One guy that worked for the first company came out and was talking to me and telling me some of the weird things he has had to deal with and told me of a ‘bulging hot-tub wooden case’ which people had called in about…. when they got there and opened the door way and looked up inside there were thousands of snakes in there……. now, had I know this before buying one I would never had brought one at all, but the only problem we have had is a bunny once decided it was warm and ate the wire covering and went in there!
Good luck with this, you should be able to figure it out, if it isnt the filter, call a company and ask them what they think it could be, you could end up spending a lot of money and time chasing problems and not getting it solved if it is the wrong thing.
