There is definitely some potential risk there. I would have an electrician replace the circuit breaker to that heater with a GFCI circuit breaker just to be safe. Also have a GFCI outlet installed to protect the outlets near the hot tub. I think the light shouldn’t be a problem.

What kind of plant can I grow near a hot tub?
I have 2 small planter boxes that came with my hot tub gazebo. What can I grow in them? Full shade. I don’t want anything too tall. I would prefer color. I guess fern is OK to. What kind though?

  4. Kitbitird says:

Geraniums come in a wide variety of scents and colors and tolerate shade. Hostas thrive in damp and shady conditions and have nice leaves, not as much color. For fragrance try Honeysuckles or Sweet box. Ferns are good – Spider plants are also good in the shade. Sorry, I couldn’t find too many color plants for you. You might want to plant bulbs in the planter boxes in addition to your plant because if it dies off in the winter, when spring comes around you will get some sweet and colorful surprises in your planter boxes. Narcissus, freesia and lillys are colorful and fragrant bulbs. Plus they will multiply yearly if you leave them in there (fertilize) and you can separate them and plant extras in your yard

How would you suggest we go about removing a 6 foot black rat snake from our hot tub in our gazebo?
Just what I said. There’s a 6 foot rat snake apparently living in the gazebo inside of the hot tub. There’s stuffing removed from the hot tub cover and everything. We’re trying to figure out what the best way to remove it would be since none of us want to get too close to it even though they’re fairly harmless.

    Suggestions?
Well, Crystal, being cautious about a snake has nothing to do with being “grown up”. Maybe you should take your own advice.

Thanks everyone else. We ended up just making a team effort and we got it out of the hot tub cover and into a bucket. We drove it to a forested area and let it go free there. :)

Try these 2 web sites. They tell you how to calculate wire size and voltage drop for certain distances.

  7. In God We Trust says:

Obviously, you don’t want the snake to hurt you. You, on the other hand, don’t want to hurt the snake either. There should be an animal welfare or someone at the health department, who could give you some quick assistance. I wish you much success and that the animal people come shortly too. Peace!!!

I want to hook up a hot tub and plan electrical for future yard use?
There was at one time a hot tub on the deck, I have since move it to outdoor gazebo. The tub is presently 125 feet away from the service panel. I need to know can I feed/junction off of the old hook 75ft from service and 75ft to new tub location. At the junction I want to also install light and fan w/switch for the outdoor grill area. My question is how do I test to determine weather existing wire is adequate and what would be the maximum load. While undergoing this task I want to know what I would need to install for my future use which would include electrical to the shed 100 ft from junction and pool 75ft from junction or 75ft from service panel (dedicated hook up pool). If this makes any since to you please help.
correction, the distance from the service panel to junction box is 100ft, and tub location is 90ft, total 190ft. The current wire is awg #6 with a #10 grd, type UF-B 600 volts. The tub’s EL rating is 40amps, and call for 240/50amps. I am also hoping to run a ceiling fan with lgts, and a 30something flat screen…Thankz

I saw ad in paper and I dont know if its really a good deal and I can I protect myself from buying a bad hot tub. what questions should I ask?

  10. Marty says:

No way, for a hot tub that is almost 7 years old. That is just about what the original price was. For about $5,000.00 you can buy a brand new Bull Frog tub.
