Most pool moulds, are fabricated out of wood, and fiberglass. The mould, is typically sculptured and shaped into the shape desired, and then finished to near perfection. Once the mould, is ready to “cast” or “lay up”, It is painted with a “gel coat” which is the base color of the finished pool. The gel coat paint, is sprayed onto the mould, and is built up with layers of fiberglass matting, fiberglass resion, and reinforcing layers of wood slats that is set into the fibreglass matting, as it is built up to the layer needed to form the pool shell. Once the fibreglass has set up, it is removed from the mould master, and trimmed to remove excessive materials, and then is cleaned up and a final finish trim paint may be applied to enhance the appearance of the pool.

We used Barry from http://www.JustPools.net.au to put our fiberglass pool in. We had a pretty steep slope – we thought it would be a problem but it was “bread and butter” stuff for Barry.
    Give him a call his number is 02 45 797 823 or
    0410 523 810.
It only took 10 days from when we ordered the pool to swimming in it in the back yard.
PS: Just Pools are in Sydney but they do NSW as well I think

Fiberglass Swimming Pools – Sydney – Where Can We Get One?
We’re looking for a fiberglass swimming pools company in Sydney to install a large fiberglass pool in a back yard that’s not very level. Is this a problem that the yard is on a slope?

Are fiberglass pools a good investment for my home?
I want a fiberglass inground pool. of a somewhat descent size. It’ll be tastefully done with a very nice landscaping surrounding the pool-area. However, even though it will be tasteful and very high quality, I was wondering if a fiberglass pool is a good investment for my home. Also, in my opinion, I think fiberglass is just as nice quality pool than concrete/gunite/shotcrete. If you disagree, please tell me, along with whether it’s a good investment or not. thank you!

The definition of investment: the investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value.

Is a swimming pool an investment? That’s a tough one. If the pool is tastefully done(as you’ve suggested) it can become an attribute to the home, but probably won’t increase the homes value. That’s where investment takes a more personal form: Are you investing in quality time, family time, yourself? If that is the case, a swimming pool can be an excellent investment.

Is a fiberglass in ground pool a good investment? When comparing fiberglass pools to vinyl-liner pools, or gunite/concrete pools, there are a few things that make a fiberglass pool a little more maintenance friendly than others (thus amounting to a better investment of your time!).

The surface finish of a fiberglass pool is supposed to be virtually maintenance free and should “last a lifetime” (however, you need to make sure you purchase your pool from a reputable manufacturer! The surface finishes on the market today vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. . .do research!).

Fiberglass pools don’t take a long time to install either(at least the shell part of the installation!).

Many of the fiberglass pools on the market today are beautiful and mimic the look of higher end concrete/gunite/shotcrete pools.

My best advice is, regardless of what medium you choose for your pool(concrete/vinyl/fiberglass):

    1. Remember, the “shell” of the pool is just one small part of the project.
    2. Make sure the contractor uses at a minimum 2″ schedule 40 pvc (HARD PIPE–NEVER use flex pipe).
    3. Make sure the contractor builds a sound circulation system: at least 3 returns, at least 1 skimmer, and skip the main drains unless you are installing an infloor cleaning system.
    4. Oversize the filter(I have a personal preference for cartridge filters, as they are more energy efficient)
    5. Properly size the pump: Get a variable speed pump if your budget allows – These are the quietest, most energy-efficient pumps on the market today. At the low end, get a 2-speed pump. NEVER oversize your pump. . .it’s a waste of money!

This is probably WAY more information than you need! Hope this helps!

I am no pool expert but I think they are fine. I have stayed at a few motels in the Colorado mountains that had outdoor fiberglass pools.

Since fiberglass does not absorb water it seems that it would be less likely to be damaged from freezing than concrete.

Fiberglass is the way to go. It doesn’t stretch, crack, or tear like vinyl. It doesn’t fade and actually gets stronger as it ages. With a liner, ou end up replacing it every 6-7 years. Within 1 year it will start to fade and lose that brilliant initial color. Fiberglass is very smooth, not allowing that algae to gain hold and stain it. It vacuums quicker, requires less chemicals to maintain and is even a good insulator.

Does anyone have any experience with Viking Fiberglass swimming pools?
We are looking into getting a pool for our backyard, and due to our location, soil, etc, a concrete pool is out. Our 2 options are a liner pool or a fiberglass. From what we’ve seen so far, fiberglass seems better.

We’ve found a company that makes the pools called Viking, and I am interested in anything you might have to say about them or their product. Thanks a bunch.
