Do mineral sanitizers in Spas / Hot tubs work effectively? I am looking to reduce my chlorine useage in my spa

    I use bromine in my spa. I don't know if you wanted to get away from both chlorine and bromine, or if you just wanted to get away from the nasty chlorine smell and thought about moving to bromine.

    I've got an ozone system also, which (in theory) allows me to greatly reduce the amount of bromine that I need to keep active in the spa.

    Not sure that I answered your question, but that's about the extent of my spa knowledge.

    I use the Baqua Spa system in my spa which is neither chlorine or bromide based. I like it because it literally has no smell, leaves the water soft and doesn't affect my skin or suits. I find I use less chemical, it is easier to keep the water balanced and as a result it is less expensive.

    Yes…mineral sanitizers like the Nature 2 system and the Spa Frog will reduce your dependency on using a halogen (ie. Chlorine or Bormine). I personally like using a CD (Cornoa Discharge Ozonator) with a Spa Frog (Copper sulfite) for the sanitizers. I have to shock the water and so once a month I use a sodium Bromie Solution. Every time I get out of the tub I use a non-chlorine shock(capful for 400 gal.) I have no off gassing from the Bromine. The spa is sanitized 4 different ways. I sold spas and I work on spas and I can tell you first hand of what medical problems can occur if you do not properly sanitize your water. No matter what sanitizer you use, you have to fist balance your water using the very cheap chemicals available for swiming pools (Same stuff). I have used and sold Baquacil and Softswim (Biguandes) I do not like their results. I want my bacteria to be elimintated not for it to be surrounded by a complex chemical substance to be made inert and not eliminated. I want it gone. Oxidized. I also do not want any gummy substance around the rim of my hot tub. I hope you know to raise your alkalinity, you use Baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate/Sodium Hydrogen carbonate).

    BE SURE TO GET YOUR TUB hardwired instead of relying on that cord they use with that spa. I repair about 20% of them due to melting/burning in the GFI. Install a dedicated GFI power line to that tub no matter what! If you have any questions feel free to contact us.
