Do carpenter ants bite humans?
I was bit by a black bug earlier today (1pm). I was getting into my car and felt a pinch/sting. Looked and found a bug under my sleeve. I squished it and got rid of it. I know now I should’ve kept it. It looked like a fat black ant, but a little different than an ant. I googled what it might be. The closest I came to is a carpenter ant. Now its 11pm and I have hives all over the backs of my thighs. Can’t figure out if its from my friends pool/spa or what bit me. Any help is appreciated!!

carpenter ants are notorious for biting. It’s also quite painful.
it’s possible the rash is a result of an allergy to the venom.
check with a qualified doctor about this.
All ants bite (sometimes) … If you’re developing an allergy, it doesn’t matter what bit you, just go and see a doctor and tell him/her your suspicions. I’ve heard of people who’re allergic to ant bites. It’s true.
Don’t worry their bites won’t cause anything to you,
Only if they are in your house and trouble people during nights then get a pest control thing done =]
Ants do not bite in any degree that can hurt you. Even the Giant Hunting Ant (Dinoponera) of South America, could not inflict a painful bite.
But ants DO sting, and some can really do a good job of it, like the Fire Ants which were accidental imported from S. America to the US in the 40s. When these ants sting it hurts and burns and then forms a pustule that’s no fun at all.
The Giant Hunting Ant can kill you with a single sting.
Carpenter Ants have a somewhat painful sting, but nothing that lasts or does any real damage UNLESS you are allergic to the venom. Since your "thighs" have hives, I doubt the ant is the cause. It might be wise to see a doctor if you are overly concerned.
