Can you recommend a nice, quiet and quaint, inexpensive getaway near NYC?

I live in NYC, and just need to getaway for a weekend night with my husband for some r&r and sanity. It has to be somewhere we can get to by train, and close enough so that we can leave on a Saturday afternoon and come back on a Sunday afternoon. Other requirements: tv with adequate channels, indoor pool, a spa of some sort for massages, and that it doesn't cost an arm & a leg. Anybody have any good suggestions?

Try looking on Escapemaker.com they have great local getaways. Also Metro-North has one day getaways, some of the towns it goes to in Upstate NY are very qaint and worth visiting maybe a hotel or b&b will match your price requirements.

Well you can’t really get there by train but there’s really nowhere you can get to by train that’s quiet…besides like a spa that you could go to. (There’s a good on called Spa88 it’s on gold st and something else; search it on yahoo to make sure where). Well only thing I can really think of is to rent a car and go someplace upstate for a bit.

Unfortunately, the only places like that do cost an arm and a leg. I’ve been looking for the same type of place for my husband and I for years. It just doesn’t exist as far as I know. There’s a place upstate near New Paltz called the Mohonk Mountain House that is extremely expensive, but it looks really nice. Maybe try a day spa instead? Some places have couples specials that are a bit less money. Or try finding a decent hotel with an indoor pool that offers spa services too.

Try the Short Hills Hilton, in Short Hills, NJ. They meet all of your requirements and often have weekend getaway packages. You will be across the street from the Short Hills Mall which has some of the best shopping in the world and is just lovely to visit. You can take the train from NYC to Summit, NJ and a taxi to the hotel from the station….its about 5 miles from there. Enjoy!
