Can hair dye and bleach affect pregnancy?

I am now 6 months pregnant and my partner decided to surprise me by shouting me a haircut, massage and beauty spa. When i got home i found a whole beauty pack that he had bought me sitting on the counter. In one part of the package it contains a hair dye with a streaking kit as well. But im too scared to use it.

I havent actually heard of any woman who has had problems with hair dyes and pregnancy, but has anyone heard whether or not its a no no?

Would appreciate any advice - thanks.

We are recommended not to because they have not enough evidence that it doesn’t effect the unborn baby’s life and health. It’s just too risky.
Some will say it’s just fine, but most will say to wait until after baby is born.
What ever you put on your skin, which includes your scalp, goes straight into the bloodstream and hair dyes which have such strong chemicals is a very risky thing to mess with.

He was such a sweetheart to do this for you! Congrats on having such a great man! But I’m sure he can understand that you don’t want to harm the babe inside and you’ll have to wait until it’s born to do this neat treat for yourself.
A sexy cut is just as good, anyway.

i’ve heard that you shouldn’t but my mom (a hairstylist) says she worked the whole 9 months pregnant with me, coloring people’s hair everyday and she even got her own done. this was before the days of all the warnings. i think i turned out ok.

you are NOT supposed to use any sort of hair dye, bleach, cat litter, anything like that….chemicals, and bacteria, very dangerous….

The problems with hair dyes and pregnancy is that pregnancy changes your "chemical" structure. What may not have bothered you in the past (like coloring your hair) could bother you now. A friend of mine wound up with 2nd degree burns on her scalp when she had a touch up done to her bleaching during her pregnancy. Also the fumes from the chemicals in dyes and perms can be toxic during a pregnancy. I suggest you consult your doctor to find out.

some doctors disagree with that topic. some say you can after 5months and some say dont do it at all. when i was pregnant i used hena dyes and punky colours

I was always told that the main reason to stay away from hair dye, perms etc is that you could really make a mess out of your hair due to your hormonal imbalance while pregnant. That your hair would respond differently and that it would get fried etc.
I have had three kids and have had perms with all of them and they are quite intelligent, cute and well put together.

Well I’m a hairdresser and a new mother.I colored hair while I was pregnant and had my own colored throughout my whole pregnancy. With the hormones I couldn’t make up my mind as to what color I wanted so I changed it every month! There are three girls I work with who are pregnant and like my Dr. their Dr. said it is fine.Congrats on the new baby!!!
