Best medium ash brown dye (at home)?

Hi,
My hair is medium brown with way to many red/auburn highlights. I'm looking to correct the brassy tone in my hair with an ash color. I've used Loreal Color Spa (Semi-Permanent) in Medium Ash Brown many times in the past and it works ok, but doesn't always cover all the gray's and fades too fast. I'm looking for an good at-home dye that is a medium ash brown. I also have a Ricky's (like Sally Beauty Supply) near me and can get to professional quality dyes. I'm just not sure what level developer to use with a medium ash brown color. Any help would be so appreciated.
Thanks!
I don't have added highlights , so I'm not worried about covering those. Also, I'm pretty young and don't have many grey's, just a few that really only I can see and worry about. Really, I just want to even out the tone of my hair and cool down the brassiness. thanks :)
Oh, also my roots are my natural color, medium ash brown, not gray at all. Just trying to get back to natural.

i would suggest going to a professional since u have 2 different colors in ur hair more than likely its not going to turn out all one color and will fade out weird. also ash is not going to get rid of red or auburn tones it might cover it for a week or two but those brassy tones are going to come back ash cancels out orange and cold tones and green cancels out red. i would use something with green and blue in it just on the highlights then apply a warm color on the rest of hair. when just depositing color u use 10 vol developer but if u have heavy grays u need to use 20 vol with a neutral color. if u have gray roots and apply the same color all over ur goingto end up having hot roots. i would apply a very neutral warm tone on gray roots.

I love Clairol. Although i’m not at the age yet, where I have to worry about covering up the greys, my mother is. We have both used many brands over the years, and we both find any of the clairol brands the best choice. I too have medium brown hair, with a LOT of light red-not quite blonde-highlights, and over the years, it continues to get brassy. I recently used Clairol’s #2 semi permanent "Natural Instincts-#22 Cinnaberry" and LOVED the results. I usually warm down my hair by using one of the dark brown tones, but I tried the red this time, and loved the results much better. It turned out to be a deep brown, with beatiful deep auburn highlights. Now, (weeks later) its mostly brown, with natural red definition. And feels great. I also baught the nice and easy permanent in "112 Natural Dark Auburn" because at the end of the summer, which its time to dye it again, i’m doing it permanent! Clairol has so many choices, and great customer service as well…i highly recommend their dyes!
